This "Deep Throat" episode really brings them out of the closet. They are unabashed Nixon lovers. They think he was a hero because he was anti communist.

Never mind that he was a liar, a crook, a racist, an anti semite, a man who dishonored both the country and the presidency, a loathsome paranoid freak and a social misfit.

Whenever Bush's justice comes down they'll say the same thing and blame someone like Rice or Rumsfeld. Bush is loved in the republican party for whatever reason and will refuse to believe anything. I can't believe people think highly of Nixon. He could've easily stopped Vietnam and been a hero but of course he didn't. Sad really.

Nixon was a better man than any of the people who brought him down, which would include the entirety of congress, the people, and the press.

All Nixon did was commit a couple of felonies. Big deal. The real crime was telling someone about what Nixon did.

What I find most interesting in watching MSM coverage of the DT story, is that ALL of the rethugs are saying how DT is dishonorable, that someone close to Nixon wouldn't betray HIM. They always speak as if loyalty to their repug leader is more important than their loyalty to this country & our Constitution. It is really quite creepy.

16. Even a howling lefty like me knows Nixon was a mixed bag.

He was everything you said he was, yet he signed the EPA into existence, started a war on drugs that had rehab as a conrnerstone, not Draconian prison sentences, interdiction, and international meddling. He practiced detente with the USSR, knowing trade would soften them more than embargo would. He approached the Chinese, and opened that diplomatic door.

However, his use of the CIA and the National Guard against student organizations was against law and precedent, and his paranoia about what were really a bunch of kids who saw through the lies that started the Vietnam war was sickening.

I think this is how history will remember him, a president with a mixed record whose character flaws and willingness to cheat and break the law cost him his office.

The one thing the left needs to learn about the Nixon years is that pardoning these guys doesn't work. You have to jail them, or they just keep coming back again and again, with worse ideas and policies every time.
