If you must use a credit card get a Democratic Party Card – Stop MBNA
I've paid off all my credit cards but one because it's always good to have one available for real emergencies.

As a supporter of Buy Blue, I was happy to find this information and thought it well worth sharing:

========================
A Buyblue blogger noted the existence of the Demcard and pointed out that: We can raise a lot of money for swing state Democratic parties by getting Demcards.

What’s a Demcard?

A Democratic Party credit card is a very clever idea by which you can support the state Democratic Party of your choice with your credit card purchases, instead of through campaign contributions, which are budgetary extra expenditures

The Demcard http://www.demcard.com is offered by Juniper Bank, 7.9% fixed. The bank partners with the following state Democratic parties:

Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Delaware, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming

Is Juniper cool? I seem to recall that they are.

I just wiped out my MBNA balance and will cancel it for good now. AND let them know why.

5. We who are not on the list should get them for Ohio!
Geez I love my credit union, that's the only card I keep. But I'll seriously consider it for Ohio. Thanks!

23. I'm a pretty solid Dem state that's on the list but may well give to Ohio.
They need it more than we do right now. But I would want them to use it to fight election fraud.

VOTER VERIFIED PAPER BALLOTS!

7. That sounds great. I switched my credit card from Citibank of Arabia
to a Working Assets card because they supposedly donate something towards progressive causes. Then I found out they were a subsidiary of MBNA, so now I no longer trust that it is a blue/green card.
Demcard sounds like a solution, the interest rate is lower too.

11. But is the card run by a company that supported the bankruptcy bill?
So many of these good cause special interest cards are managed by nasty people like MBNA or the equivalent.

13. you might want to transfer the balance to the new card
especially if the interest rate is lower. No annual fee, too.

14. Unfortunately I have an MBNA card with a big balance
I got it about 10 years ago because it helps support the National Wildlife Federation. Knowing now how MBNA supports the republicans, I'd like to get rid of it. I have a big balance (not huge) that gets paid down and then something goes wrong with my car or some other money emergency. *Groan* I just received a letter from them today that they are raising my limit from $17,000 to $32,000. I was like, "what the heck?!?". Not that I ever even got close to the original limit.

15. Maybe They Will Transfer The Balance?
I think that all these cc companies are FIGHTING for your balance, really...! Otherwise you're paying the competitor interest. If your interest is higher than this, def look into it, cuz that would be win/win. Save money AND help us get a shot at taking back the Senate in 2006!

I'm definitely applying -- thanks to the poster!

16. i worked for mbna indirectly
through a promotions company. They are evillllll. And evil was given the rightaway with the bankruptcy bill.

I just wish i was able to keep all my damned money myself and screw all the banks. the odds though, are not in my favor.

19. maybe?
It would be nice. I usually get about 2 credit card offers in the mail per day but I just shred them without looking at them. My APR is so high, it just keeps going up and up over the last year. My credit is superb -- credit card companies love me, as do car dealers. Maybe they'll at least take some of the transfer and then I could pay off MBNA faster without so damn much interest every month.

My home state, or any state I've ever lived in, isn't on the list at the website. Maybe I'll pick a really red one like Wyoming. :D

17. YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHOOSE YOUR OWN STATE, which is good since
Edited on Fri May-27-05 02:16 AM by Nothing Without Hope
my state, Massachusetts, isn't on the list. This from the BuyBlue link in the OP:

(snip)
You don’t have to choose the state democratic party where you live. I chose a Demcard to support the Ohio Democratic Party. Under Ohio terms and conditions, it says that I will earn points based on a percentage of my purchases and that all the points in my account will be converted and contributed monthly to the Ohio Democratic Party at the rate of one dollar for every one hundred points earned. Accounts that have been opened in response to the Ohio Democratic Party special promotional program will be entitled to an opening balance of 4,500 points.
(snip)

Thanks! :hi:

18. This is very ironic ...
given that I just complimented a restaurant guest on their credit card and recommended them to DU. They were a lovely couple from Arkansas - the gentleman had a card with a political cartoon donkey. When I told him how much I appreciated his card, he said "I thought you might like it, do you hate Republicans, too?". I responded, "The Bush kind, of course I do!". It was a weirdly wonderful moment in an otherwise difficult night. I do feel a bit bad because I began gushing about current events ... but he was so sweet. I'm trying to get rid of my cards ... but I will look into this.

20. As a special treat:TOM TOMORROW'S GREAT CARTOON on credit cards
and the evil bankruptcy law. Its title is "Moral Bankruptcy" and it can be found at the Working For Change web site: http://www.workingforchange.com/comic.cfm?itemid=18719
I route the image file through a public cache, so it may take a few seconds to load. If so, it's well worth the wait!

27. Are these cards available to folks in other states?
If so, which state party gets the proceeds? I get mail all the time from some credit card issuer (can't remember which) trying to sell me a card that supposedly donates to the national party. Is this the same thing?
