MEDFORD - A Medford baby has been born with two extra toes on each foot, and one extra finger on each hand.
Born May 13, Vincent Monarque has five fingers and a thumb on his left hand, with the thumb and first finger joined by a web of flesh. There are six fingers, but no thumb, on his right hand. Both feet have seven toes, although two toes on the left foot are fully joined.

``I couldn't believe it,'' said his 17-year-old mother, Mary Hernandez. ``I thought they were teasing me when they told me.''

Doctors said the child is a textbook example of polydactyly - extra digits - as well as syndactyly - joined appendages. The two don't always happen together, but when they do, it's called polysyndactyly.

I had a friend

who was born with 4 thumbs, another friend who was born with two extra ears (just the exterior), and yet another friend who was born with her arm fused to her spine. Me, I was just born with a singular tonsil. :shrug:
