Yellow dog?

Is this term used nationwide to describe true blue democrats? Here in OK its a matter of pride to be called a Yellow Dog Democrat, the meaning of which is "I'd vote for a yellow dog before I'd vote for a repug."

1. People don't take it to heart so much in Ohio

I think Ohio Democrats are more identified with the left than are Southern Democrats. These Democrats are Catholics, organized labor, etc. For the longest time, southerners would have nothing to do with the GOP on account of the Civil War and Reconstruction. Conservatives would vote Democrat in the South. Hence, "I would vote for a yellow dog if he was the only Democrat on the ticket".

Unfortunately, that has been changing for a long while.

2. Same thing here in MS and back home in GA...

and I'm PROUD to be one! Even better is the old Yellow Dog Democrat who was asked, "Pops, I believe you'd vote for the Devil if ran as a Democrat, wouldn't you? "Not in the primary, I wouldn't," the old man replied.
