Edited on Wed May-18-05 09:45 PM by trumad
The dude makes 150 grand working for a charity and likes nice suits? Hang em...Hang em high

Over and over and over the naysayers were asked to provide proof that Galloway is a crook and all they could come up with is innuendo and quotes from Mum.

Like I said, Norm Coleman clones...

1. Norm Coleman is one of the very worst. Maybe WAS a setup.
Hard to believe Minnesota would let a run-centrist-govern-far-right scumbag like Coleman be their senator. Who died and made him Senator? Oh, I forgot. . .

3. It's astonishing.
Not even a rehash of the Telegraph documents that survived Shock 'n Awe like a passport floating breezily from the tip of the WTC.

I was really expecting a better effort.

That said, did you know that Hillary Clinton decorated the WH Christmas tree with condoms? Oh, and she's very controversial, too.

And anyone who considers Carl Levin and people like him to be the same as Norm Coleman is a contemptible idiot.

just like so many of our Democratic "leaders" who could stand to take a lesson from Galloway!

I am sick of these people calling themselves our reps when they represent no one but themselves and their careers!

In that respect they are not much different from the Douchebag from Minnesota!

When are we going to become an opposition party that actually OPPOSES?

Seriously, the idea of condemning any Democrat who thinks Galloway is dirty is just stupid.

In fact, it may be the world's dumbest litmus test.

Thank you for that window into your credibility. Good to know you're willing to mindless and stupidly bash a staunch anti-war progressive just because he doesn't like your boy Galloway.

That's true progressivism.

8. Well, I recall that Levin opposed the IWR
What was Saint Hillary's vote on that again? Speaking about representing no one but themselves and their careers -- Hillary's made a career out of that. To say nothing about the rest of her salaaming before pResident Pinhead.
John
Carl Levin has done a fine job representing Michigan. The voters here in the Great Lakes State will decide whether he is worthy of representing us in the Senate and I don't give a good goddamn what a bunch of Democratic sycophants in the other 49 states think about him.

14. And, of course,
she's very controversial. Polarizing even. Had dozens of people killed, including her lover, just prior to her bout with lesbianism. Has a bad habit of throwing lamps. And, of course, can't account for the Holy Grail of billing records, thereby implicating herself in the largest land scam in the history of the world.

Perhaps our British friends don't understand American bare-knuckled politics. Hell, they've probably never heard of Hillary Clinton before today...

I suspect you're being facetious, but I don't believe a word of any of that, should you be serious. I will note that if Hillary is the Dem candidate for President in '08, I'm voting Socialist Worker.
John
Not that I'm all that sure why I vote Dem any more, anyhow. I do tire of the "ideologically purer than thou" types and this party and this site is just crawling with 'em.

22. Forgot the sarcasm tag
My point is that the "charges" being leveled against Galloway have the same simple stench as those leveled against damned near any Democrat in the U.S. The Clintons, of course, are the best example because their political careers have been sullied in very much the same way as Galloway's. And, coincidentally (but not remarkably), they were all empowered by the slurs.

We agree on the purity test, as I had mentioned on the other thread.

Isn't that the whole shebang, though? Galloway ain't perfect, they say, so he's poison?

26. Yessir, you are correct
And you'll note that nowhere on this thread or any other have I made any comment on Mr. Galloway, good or bad. I simply don't know whether the truth is that he is a con man or a voice in the wilderness.
I will say that I was impressed by Galloway's appearance yesterday and that I've been impressed by Senator Levin for 24 years. I have been loyal to Carl in good times and bad and will say nothing bad about him or about Mr. Galloway.
I just wish other people here either had a similar respect for a good man (and I've watched him for a quarter-century) or the simple decency to keep uninformed, half-cocked, ignorant opinions to themselves.
If the naysayers want to display their knee-jerk stupidity (something which is never in short supply around here), that's their business. My business is to respect those people who have always respected me. That's called loyalty. And I respect Senator Levin more than I do a lot of the pant-wetters here.
I won't name names except to say I am not directing this at you. But, for the others, if the diaper fits -- wear it.
John
I don't care if that's not part of the lockstep DU philosophy. But I also don't care if I'm one of The Kool Kids -- I don't maintain a Christmas card list, anyhow.
Best to you.

10. I get the feeling there's an elephant in the living room being ignored.
Isn't the main cause of the differences here really Mr Galloway's support of the Palestian cause, much more so that his support for the Iraqi cause? But it's never mentioned in the debates/rants/fights. I guess because the thread will almost certainly end up locked. But it is obviously a huge issue with many here. I understand why everyone's ignoring it, because the discussion would go nowhere, but that's surely what the dislike for Mr Galloway is all about here.

Recalling a life-changing visit to Lebanon in the 1970's when he was 23, he said: "It was a time of music in the cafes at night and revolution in the air, beautiful girls with Kalashnikovs, the romance and the violence ... I became close to Arafat and strongly committed to the Palestinian cause - indeed, umbilically connected - and I remain so."

He added: "At that time, to say you were with the PLO had the same kind of shock as to say that you were with Osama Bin Laden would have today. It was a very tough time to declare yourself."

Give us a cite on the head-chopper cheering, and try to avoid any with prominent Eagles or wafting Old Glories.

As to Israel and Palestine, he's anti-Likud and pro-Palestinian Statehood. Which is, of course, what you meant to say, right?

He accused Al Gore of being bought off by "Zionists." That kind of talk comes from anti-Israel types.

Here's a commentary where he essentially calls anyone killed by the insurgents collaborators:

25. Israel is not Zionism. Zionism is not Israel.
I'm profoundly anti-Zionist and anti-Likud. I'm not anti-Israel (which, of course, is an absurd notion on its face). Much of early Zionism was spread by fundamentalist Christians bent on corraling Jews and preparing for the Rapture. Zionists are religious freaks who deserve scorn.

Likewise, of course, for the Likudniks.

For the record, I'm Jewish and a socialist, as are many of my friends. We're all as one on this matter, so if you're gonna paint Galloway with that oozing broad brush, slap it on us as well. Then go fuck yourself.

As to your other assertion, I haven't the time to listen through the damned thing, looking for a cite where he "essentially" says something. Gimme a quote, and I'll consider it.

Ditto for the "two types of Iraqis".

You seem long on accusations and short on evidence.

first of all, plenty of us are anti-Zionist without being anti-Israeli. In fact, you know perfectly well that this message board expressly makes the distinction precisely to allow legitimate criticism of the state of Israel to be made. Secondly, Galloway most certainly does not "cheer on the suicide bombers". Allow me to quote from the clip:

"Actually the Iraqi resistance does not target its own civilians. But the people being fought by the resistance in Iraq are the people working for the occupation"

That, as we know from

http://www.zmag.org/content/showarticle.cfm?SectionID=15&ItemID=7670

and

is pretty much false only inasmuch Mr. Galloway said the attacks were on people working for the occupation and not the occupying forces themselves. 75% of the attacks made by the resistance are against the occupying forces, a resistance which is fighthing a war of national liberation whether you like it or not.

I cannot claim to know the complete truth of the matter -- how could I? However, the case seems clear -- because I know how the neocons operate: they use whatever they can against those who dare to oppose them. In this case, since the matter at hand is (was) the "war" in Iraq, the neocons would (might well) attempt to make their opponents (or even those who didn't support the neocons enthusiastically enough) seem like they (these opponents) had evil, greedy, grasping or dogmatic (or other unsavory or "ungood") reasons for opposing the war. (The neocons generally suspect from others what they are and do themselves -- and, even when they don't suspect this, the use of projection is one of their favorites.) And this oil program is a tool at hand -- and a tool of which the neocons had inside knowledge (it is easier to smear others when you know the details of who's who, etc -- or you are, in reality, behind the whole damn thing).

And the neocons would not shy from using forged documents, false statements or the foulest of baseless slanders. Hell, this is not merely their practise -- it's their "religion" -- besides, it's fun for them. (And they have an arsenal of dark-arts tools Stalin -- or Sauron -- or Satan -- would envy.)
