Galloway wins libel judgement
Will Springer

GEORGE Galloway today won £150,000 in damages from The Daily Telegraph over "outrageous and incredibly damaging" allegations that he was receiving payoffs from Saddam Hussein when the former Iraqi leader was in power.

The MP for Glasgow Kelvin smiled as Mr Justice Eady gave his ruling. The judge, who heard the case at London's High Court without a jury, said he was "obliged to compensate Mr Galloway in respect of the publications and the aggravated features of the defendants' subsequent conduct, and to make an award for the purposes of restoring his reputation".

Mr Justice Eady added: "I do not think those purposes would be achieved by any award less than £150,000."

2. Not everyone knew that.
Those senators tried to broadcast a lie and this is the sort of article that lets people know that, regardless of the date.

3. So, basically, Galloway can prove the spinmeisters in the Republican
Party here that he's already SHOWN that he had no dealings with Hussein... unlike Rummy and Cheney.

5. Exactly
This is important to get out and let people know. If he won that case he can win this one too. Was today (er yesterday on the east coast) just the beginning?

4. It's not so ancient
and it's terribly relevant in terms of Galloway's reputation and credibility. The senators for whom he ripped new assholes today should be aware that their pathetic attempts to defame the gentleman were spurious and shameful.

6. OK,I think I begin to see the plan.
I have the misfortune of being able to spend more time than most on these issues and, without thinking, tend to assume everyone has made the connections.

C. Rose dingathon suddenly turn into a calm, hard hitting, honest and totally delightful power hour (a little egg-saturation is definitely called for.) I get so utterly sick from watching those "oh he's mah fren'" and "muh 'steamed colleague fum across the aisle" crap speeches drizzled out by those ass kissing "statesmen," of minuscule imagination, who appear to believe that if they drone on for a hundred repetitions of the same tired talking point lies it will somehow transmute into statesmanlike debate.
Galloway is so much the genuine, authentic article, he's breathtaking.
Typing is also quite a laborious task for me.

I saw the OP and took it as something new. On reading further, however, I realized it was the same info that had, months ago, brought this peerless gentleman to my attention. My fuzzy, drug infested brain was trying to sort out what everyone else seemed to grasp intuitively-that at least part of the intent must have been to flesh out today's drama, especially for late arrivals. Made sense to me then. (Sort of like the fellow who stayed up all night, wondering where the sun went--it finally dawned on him.)

9. He nailed The Christian Science Monitor for damages and got an apology too

Galloway also accepted undisclosed damages and a public apology from The Christian Science Monitor over an article it published alleging he took money from Saddam’s regime. That report was based on documents that later proved to be forgeries.

CSM went downhill soon after that fiasco. They even began linking to FreeRepublic soon thereafter. They lost all credibility. CSM went from one of the best news sources to one of the worst in a very short period of time. I removed them from my favorites about the same time. I don't even visit their page anymore.
