France: Delusions of Grandeur
French President Jacques Chirac has made a career appealing to the glories of his country's past. But his people are wondering if he knows how to lead them into the future.

Oh brother. So Bush pushing policies to turn America back into what it was in the Gilded Age makes him "modern" and " with it", I suppose? And Chirac's opposition to a blatantly unconscionable war and devotion to mid-20th century notions of civic-mindedness and egalitarianism make him "a dinosaur"?

Fuck you very much Newsweek, and the feeble-minded French-bashing Fox-watchers you're trying to lure with this crap. Hello! Freepers don't read! Sure, a scant few of them skim through a copy of "The Way Things Ought to Be" and "The Fountainhead" and then fancy themselves to be modern-day Bill Buckleys, but in general, they DO NOT READ!

Chirac is younger than Reagan was, by the way...

1. Um, isn't he a conservative?
I didn't know Jacques Chirac was a hero of the left, ever.

He's just as corrupt and self-interested (think oil contracts w/ Iraq as the main reason for opposing the Iraq war) as Bush is. And I'm pretty sure he's known as a conservative. Basically, your post doesn't make any sense.

2. The French political spectrum is very different than ours, but

regardless, in American politics Chirac is villianized by the right and used as a scapegoat, but you are right, just critisizing chirac is not proof of bias in the slightest.

3. By European standards, maybe.
He'd be a dem if he were here.

Is he proposing throwing his country's Social Security system in the crapper and replacing it with a phony personal accounts scheme? He'd be hanged if he proposed something so ludicrous.

And I think the fact that huge majorities in his country were vehemently opposed to the war had a lot to do with it, too. I'm sure Bush made him some lucrative offers.

And NOBODY is as corrupt and self-interested as Bush is. Bush is a mass murderer. Chirac is not.

And it makes perfect sense, since this article really doesn't say anything. It's just more empty freeper French-bashing.
