What nobody is asking about the Newsweek fiasco . . .
What other story could Newsweek have been planning on printing in the near future that would prompt the Whitehouse to make attempts to discredit them before it ran?

Was Newsweek planning a story on the memo? Were they planning something else?

What would motivate an obvious attempt to discredit them?

2. That could be almost anything...
... having to do with the Bushies.... :)

As for the flushing story, that's enough to get the White House really upset. It's pretty much the last thing they need after all the torture stuff (some of which is still ongoing).

They'd want the down-the-commode story stopped as soon as possible for more than obvious reasons. It's not exactly the way to win the hearts and minds....

3. Oh come on, they haven't exactly been truly concerned with
winning hearts and minds. . .splattering them all over the pavement maybe, but not winning them.

9. Exactly
They could give a damn. Other wise they would've stopped all the torture and torture flights but they have done shit. So what's going on???

10. I agree
The proposed objective for the neocons is to have a war, preferrably two, going. To radicalize Muslims further towards the US meets that agenda.
Note that I'm not proclaiming this to be true, just thinking aloud.

It is very interesting to see how they play their game. Anyhow, it is a good question to ask wether the incident have a deeper meaning.

11. Hmm...
... I didn't say they were good at it (but that's what they think they're doing). Remember Vietnam? (!)

There are other hearts and minds to be won, as well... in the United States. Most of the propaganda generated is directed not at the Iraqis, but, rather, at us....

4. Are we trying to win the hearts and minds?
I figured we'd given that effort up by now and were just planning more attacks on civilians who defend their home and calling them insurgents.

8. 80% of Muslims are not Arabs.
There are a lot of countries that have Muslim populations that are getting more and more pissed off at Amerika. This story may have been the last staw for many Muslims. The Bush Junta put a lot of pressure on NW to retract and whoever in the DOD changed their story will prolly be fired for reporting it to NW in the 1st palce. Now the knife is being twisted into NW as they are the handy scapegoat.

6. Hell, these thugs have a huge list of lies following them around...
It could be just about anything! Has anyone noticed that it is NEVER about them. EVER! They DENY everything...blame everyone and never accept responsibility for their actions. How in the hell can they even expect ANYONE to believe a word they say? They are an endless pit of lies and deceit!

12. actually I think it's a knee-jerk reaction to the riots against the Koran
abuse.

They had to blame someone - and no one hates America like an good investigative reporter.

13. The Muslims were so outraged that they were planning a jihad.
Where would Cheney hide then? Old Stump might have to stop traveling the world on our dime.
