what if you were a P.O.W. & your Muslim Captors put a Bible in the Toilet?

apparently american g.i.'s have done this to muslim prisoners of war.
it's in the news, and maybe someone could help me track down the source story. muslim prisoners of war forced to watch as their american captors flushed the Koran down the toilet.

in some islamist nations, this is the highest of blasphemies. g.i's, besides physical torture, have used this 'religious torture' in other forms too.

some american female g.i.'s have been guilty of smearing ketchup on muslim p.o.w.'s in an effort to offend their religious aversions to menstruating women. and forcing the men prisoners to wear women's panties and the forced ingestion of pork, etc. some might call it torture, but that's such an antiquated and quaint concept.

large scale riots have broken out in certain muslim nations over this incident, where the Koran was shoved into a toilet in front of muslim prisoners of war. scores have died in these riots. the whole of the muslim world is reading this story, and joining in the rage against the u.s.

imagine bill frist's and tom delay's OUTRAGE if an american prisoner of war related such an incident to the media, shoving the bible instead of the koran in the toilet. oh the wailing! oh the gnashing of teeth! you'd never hear the end of it.

11. It's not a valid comparison because Muslims view the physical book,

even the pages or scraps of pages, as holy, while Christians view only the words as holy. Many Christians would be offended at any desecration of the Bible since, obviously, someone desecrating a Bible means profound disrespect not just to Christians but to God Himself, and Christ His Son. But it's not nearly as big a deal as desecration of a Koran is to a Muslim.

It would be a better analogy if you substituted how would religious Jews feel about their captors flushing Torah scrolls down a toilet. But I'm not sure if Jewish feeling about the Torah is as fervent as Muslim feeling about the Koran.

I know about Muslim's great reverence about the Koran because I once saw a documentary on TV about a man in Afghanistan (?) who collects and preserves -- in a labyrinth of caves -- old Korans and fragments of same. It may have been something started by his father or grandfather; there were many tunnels full of floor-to-ceiling stacks of Korans.
