1. Notice how Carnegie just comes floating out of nowhere?
So, have they essentially 'checked' Chomsky?

Imagine having Gore Vidal on and having the lack of thought to compare him to Pat Buchanan...um, yeah...

17. Yes...Vidal
Was discussing how Democracy and Imperialism do not go hand in hand... in other words, we have no right to be in Iraq... So Maher said something like "the left, Vidal, and the right, Buchy, meet"...and saying he is like Buchy or something. I don't think Maher understands the difference between intervention for human rights abuses vs. imperialism. Maher is bright, yes, an intellectual ... hardly.

of one of his plays. He was brilliant, if not a bit curmudgeonly. (Well, he is in a wheelchair, now, I believe.)

14. I like the reasoning here, amazingly distorted...
They created a tree, now consider this, out of money... not genetics. Hitler, brown hair, dark eyes, Jewish... Harriman brothers, Jews. You see? It is not about culture or ethnic background... it is about money and power. Just like Wolfie and Perle, the Harrimans of today, who are presiding over more torture camps. It is for their sick projects... why else torture people for no reason other than to torture them?

perception management & domestic propaganda

This is not tinfoilhat stuff - just do a google search on military and gov websites for "perception management".

16. wow... this is becoming a hell of a thread
Okay, so now we enter into the realm of dichotomy and cognitive discord... how can we be "proud" and "American" at the same time? What does America stand for? This is a purely philosophical question.

Consider:

1). In the 200+ years America has been in "alive" how many genocides did it preside over? Start with the Native Americans and move forward in time.

2). If America never existed, would there be just as much death (human nature) or less?

3). Has America, the ideal we believe in, ever existed? If so, then when? If not, then why not?

Forgive me. I have been drinking in the French Quarter all night because exams are over and I am celebrating. I just came here to wreak a little havoc and have fun (I should be on a couch in the lounge right now), but your post caught my eye and a few of my brain cells are still functioning. :)

21. OK
1. Quantity is not important to me. Cambodia. Pick your genicide_____________.

2. Yes, maybe. Depends on the size of Earth's human population at the time, regardless of an "American" construct. Malthus was poo pooed but there may be a "population wall," so to speak.

3. In some people's minds, yes. Trouillot would call it a "North Atlantic, fictional geography," a "geography of imagination," or what I sometimes call the "Western Canon Trope."

28. my responses
1). Quantity is not important? It should be. But I am asking if we have outdone even the most brutal civilizations... have we?

2). Malthus was, as you say, "poo pooed" enough to make far too much of a criminal contribution. A population wall? I assume you mean resources vs. people? I am wondering if we take into account the history of America and ask the question: would more lives have been saved, less brutality committed, or is human nature thus and American crimes are just an example?

3). I am thinking no... you cannot build an ideal world by displacing and murdering millions of people to get their land and then by creating a document that grants freedoms to all, except to those who did not write it and their like. I am thinking no and that is making me sad. So the Simulacrum is really where we have been and still are.

26. interesting
just today I attended an ACLU meeting where a Free Speech award was presented to a local newspaper (and friends of mine): www.agrnews.org

They have received numerous Project Censored awards in the past and it was kind of unnerving to read the piece on Project Censored.
