Firefox users: major security update is available
www.mozilla.com

The Mozilla Foundation has released a security update for its Firefox open-source browser after exploit code was made public for two "extremely critical" vulnerabilities.

Firefox 1.0.4 includes security fixes, as well as a correction for DHTML errors seen on some Web sites.

The security updates address two vulnerabilities that were rated as "extremely critical" by Danish security firm Secunia and involved cross-site scripting and remote-system-access flaws.

5. Done - Thanks. This shows how open source trumps
proprietary software. The vulnerability was first discovered by those who want to make it better, not by those who want to exploit the defect, and reported and corrected BEFORE it was exploited. As a result, the fix appeared before before any damage was done, rather than after.

6. And ...

The entire process from the news of a possible exploit to a release fix took five days.

FIVE days.
