New Army Commercial On TV. Join Reserves- It's Not The Army
Edited on Thu May-12-05 06:36 PM by cryingshame
a young man is playing pool with his Dad saying he wants to join the Army RESERVES.

Dad says 'it's the ARMY'.

Kid says 'it's the Army RESERVES'.

This continues till kid says some spiel about 'doing something meaningful and being able to go to school locally'.

Father relents and says 'well as long as you get good training'.

Kid says 'Good training? It's the ARMY'.

So now the Army is pretending that joining the Army Reserves won't get you sent to Iraq the way just plain ole enlisting into the Army will.

And the Army is also pretending that offering shorter terms to serve won't get recruits caught up in Stoploss.

:puke:

1. Fuck the Army
I hate to say that, as I'm an Army veteran, but any parent that let's their kid enlist in the Army today is nuts.

14. That's what I said in 1995 when I left active duty.
Too many asshole commanders who were fucking manic worrying about their careers & didn't give a shit about the troops.

Of course, I had some excellent commanders too, but the bad ones make it a living hell.

I'm still in the IRR cuz I took that VSI. The mofos better not be calling me back !

3. Yeah my niece did that so she could get her nursing degree......
Edited on Thu May-12-05 06:54 PM by Historic NY
well 6 yrs are now turning to 8 and she still is shy on courses for a degree, due to deployments. She is being released the end of the month from her last 16 month activation. With work & school she had hoped to been done with them a long time ago.

Be all you can be........right.

4. My post yesterday
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=3638546&mesg_id=3638546

They want reservists bad--they don't have to count them in Iraq and I even understood (not sure if correctly) that if they are killed or injured, they don't have the same benefits that regular full-time army does. Is that correct?

6. I believe so
I think it would be nice if someone made a truth in advertising ad spoofing this recruiting ad...something like "I can go to school locally--after I've finished back to back to back deployments to Iraq."

7. I think that is incorrect
If a Soldier is killed while on active duty, it doesn't matter if they are reservists or in the National Guard. I think they get the same survivor benefits.

15. It's manipulation plain and simple
They've tried other forms of getting people to join but nobody is joining. People don't know anybody could get sent to Iraq. I think it's purely disgusting how they're lying to people.

17. You Missed The Big Line!!!
"I can train near home until they need me."

My wife and I both cringed when we heard that.

If the ad scontinued Dad would note "And them they send you off to the Middleeast to die for a lie!"

If I was dad I'd kick his ass for even considering it!
