Outsourcing as a means to lowering our medical costs.
The "60 Minutes" segement from two weeks ago should be an eye opener for the entire medical profession in this country. That segment showed how many complex procedures are being performed in excellent medical centers in India, Thailand etc.by Doctors trained in some of our best medical schools. India is now becoming a magnet for many Europeans and Japanese seeking treatment without any wait.As a country that graduates many more doctors than the U.S. or any of the European countries, with excellent nursing staff and trained technicians, India is in a position to dominate that field just as it has done in IT.In fact, India now calls this medical tourism and is going all out to showcase its capabilities.

As a country that is also capable of producing many of the drugs at a fraction of the cost in the U.S., India poses not just a challenge to our medical professions but to the entire pharmaceutical industry.

And guess who is excited by this? The Insurance industry,of course. They are actually involved in financing new medical centers in India and will make it extremely atractive for our patients to fly to India to get their treatments.Kiss another profession goodbye!

1. "insurance companies financing new medical centers in India "
KlatooBNikto do you happen to have a link to articles that mention insurance companies involved in the financing of med centers in India. I watched 60 Minutes and saw that segment on Medical Tourism and thought there could be some US money behind these hospitals..insurance companies would definitely be delighted to have patients go overseas...wouldn't surprise me if they would pay for it in some cases.
