7. heheh....my ears are still burning over some of the calls I've made.
Or maybe THEY are the ones with the burning ears. My outrage was pretty blistering.

I also contacted television reviewers to complain about the Sunday broadcast news shows and how every one of them ignored discussing the memo.

13. Here is my letter to the editor, my mom's afraid I'll lose my job if I
send this to the paper........

here it is:

As a Christian American, I’m absolutely appalled by the actions and words of the current Bush Administration, this Congress, and all those who continue to support President Bush in the face of the overwhelming evidence that this Administration lied and lied profusely to the American People. This rises above the level of partisan politics. This rises to the level of treason. This goes to the very heart of being an American and a Christian. Over 3,000 died as a result of the September eleventh attacks on the World Trade Center. There is considerable evidence that the American people were lied to about the events surrounding September eleventh and more to the point; they lied to the American people when they told us that this Administration did not have prior knowledge of the attacks. During the C-Span broadcast of David Ray Griffin, a Christian theologian, he asks us “How should religious people respond?” How should we respond indeed! Our son’s and daughters are dying and being maimed <16,000> because of these lies. Simply put, the lies of this Administration have dragged our reputation as Americans through the mud.

We now know based on the secret UK memo that president Bush and Prime Minister Blair plotted to achieve a regime change in Iraq and asked their staffs to fix facts to support their war policy. “Bush wanted to remove Saddam," reads the leaked secret British intelligence memo dated 23 July 2002, "through military action, justified by the joining of terrorism and WMD. The intelligence and the facts were being fixed around the policy” Do you know why they focused on Iraq? Even now Iran and North Korea are considered more dangerous to American Interests. So why did they focus on Iraq? They coveted Iraq’s Oil! There are over 9 trillion dollars in oil and gas reserves in the Caspian Basin, and we are now in debt over seven trillion just from trying to seize that oil and building secret military bases to protect that oil. Bush claims we are Fighting for Freedom, I say that’s horse malarkey. The Iraqis want us to leave, at least that’s what the insurgents are telling us. America is now bankrupt. The military industrial complex is now much richer. The think-tank called ‘The Project for the New American Century’ populated by so many in the current Administration, plotted and planed a war against Iraq; have now begun to execute their plans. Go to their web site and you will find an article dated 1998 called ‘How to attack Iraq’.

By now all Americans should know that the Administration’s claim of Weapons of Mass Destruction was in fact Words of Mass Deception. The ‘yellow cake from Nigeria’ claim was bogus, as well, just as Valerie Plame’s husband, Joseph Wilson, a former ambassador, said it was. The Bush Administration punished Wilson for speaking out, by outing his wife, Valerie as a CIA Officer. This turns out to be a Federal offense of the highest order punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a special prosecutor is still investigating. In addition, the aluminum tube scare was just that, a scare tactic. The size and dimensions of the tubes Baghdad was trying to buy, it was argued by the White House were unusually strong and had been made to such tight specifications that they must have been designed to enrich uranium destined for the making of nuclear bombs. Our best and brightest nuclear scientist at the U.S. Department of Energy concluded later that the tubes Iraq sought to acquire were poorly suited for use in gas centrifuges to be used for uranium enrichment, and it was more likely that the tubes were intended for artillery, just as Iraq had claimed.

We also now know that prisoners were abused at Abu Ghraib and else where around the world, while we were led to believe ‘it was just a few bad apples’. When former Secretary of the Treasury Paul O’Neill and former White House Counter-Terrorism Czar Richard Clark tried to tell us that this Administration was fixated on going to war with Iraq, the Administration told us not to believe them…. that it was lies.

As if that was enough to make the average American head spin, we now find out that things about September Eleventh that are not quite right. It’s extremely disturbing to discover that our government had SPECIFIC PRIOR KNOWLEDGE of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon; and the Administration did nothing to protect its citizens! That’s treason. We know that 2 FBI agents came to attorney David Schippers 6 weeks before the attacks and asked for his influential help. The 2 FBI agents reported to Schippers the 9/11 plot with specifics as to the date and targets! These two FBI agents came to Attorney Schippers because the FBI had blocked their Investigations; and they had both been threatened with prosecution if they went public with their information. Republican David Schippers tried several times to call Attorney General Ashcroft. Ashcroft never returned his phone calls. Attorney Schippers went public with what he knew two days after the attacks. Any one with half a lick of sense can look at the tiny hole that hit the Pentagon and know that a Bowing 757 could not possibly have fit in that hole, nor could a 757 create that same size hole through 6 steel reinforced walls. It’s a completely outrageous lie. They also want us to believe that building 7 fell at 5 o’clock that afternoon due to the attacks, when the video pf Building 7 falling CLEARLY shows it was a controlled demolition. And on top of all that we are led to believe that the best air defense that money could buy was rendered completely inept on that day. The 911truth.org cites 15 reasons why you should doubt the official story of 911. They are: The top 15 reasons to doubt the official story of Sept. 11, 2001

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. It is time to write and call your congressman. It is time to talk to your friends and neighbors. It’s time to let your voice be heard. It’s time for you to become informed, especially if all of the above is news to you. There are numerous books and videos that have been published about the attacks. It’s time to ask your news media why are they keeping you in the dark. The news media is just as complicit by their unexplained silence.

15. Good letter, but too long for LTTE
Most papers won't print anything longer than 250 words. It's hard to pare a letter down, I know. But keeping it short, boiling it down to the essentials, makes it much more likely get somewhere.

14. Would be good to have a printer-friendly or downloadable version
Something easily printable without the sidebar and all would be very handy.

A text or PDF copy to download and send to media contacts would be even better.

I'll clean it up from the HTML and send you a formatted printable Word doc, if that would be helpful.

17. Could a few people contact the Rapid Response Network?
I sent the PDA release and a few clips to them last week and haven't heard back.

Engaging the media and mobilizing letter writing campaigns is what they do best!

Thanks.

http://rapidresponsenetwork.org/

Note: It's an awesome network. They highlight issues, provide links and talking points, and help focus thousands of keyboard activists on a timely issue of importance to progressives.

The Secret Downing Street Memo
Where We Are Going

On talk radio today, and on the Internet, there is a palpable frustration about the lack of mainstream media (or as many appropriately call it, "corporate media") coverage of the secret Downing Street memo. I share this frustration. In my view, it is inexcusable that the cable news networks and the major newspapers have failed thus far to give this story the attention it deserves. At its core, the disclosure represents a vindication of the assertions of all of us who opposed the war, and truth-telling former Administration officials who were smeared for daring to provide the public the information it is entitled to. More importantly, it shows an Administration that appears to have lied to the American people and their elected representatives, while simultaneously telling the truth to the representatives of the British people, about the most grave matter for any nation -- the decision to go to war.

To be sure, there is more coverage in the last three days about this than in the previous week. A new story by Knight-Ridder puts an appropriate context on the letter I circulated, and -- while scant -- CNN at least saw fit to mention the letter over the weekend.

However, if you will excuse the sports analogy (the NBA playoffs are in full swing and my Detroit Pistons are the defending champions), in basketball, it is frequently the case that a team will feel it is getting a series of unfair calls from the referees, and will expend so much energy worrying about the lack of fairness, that it loses track of its game plan.

A smart team, on the other hand, will adopt a two-tier strategy. They will work the refs, meaning complain about the calls, and try to urge the officials to do better. But, more importantly, they will simply play harder so that the bad calls will not be outcome determinative.
