Did FDR expect UN to fix problems with Yalta? Bush blaming FDR for Yalta..
...is really about taking the blame off Republicans for sabotaging the UN, which is interesting since the other thing going on right now is that Bush wants to appoint a UN ambassador who doesn't like the UN.

Stalin's army had reached the Oder River and was poised for the final attack on Berlin, but Stalin on Feb. 3 had ordered Zhukov to pause while the conference was in session. His occupation of Poland was complete, and he possessed command of the largest army in Europe, 12 million soldiers in 300 divisions. Eisenhower's 4 million men in 85 divisions were still west of the Rhine.

...

Robert Dallek has pointed out in Franklin Roosevelt and American Foreign Policy, FDR was hoping the future United Nations organization would be the place to deal with Stalin, not at Yalta. He told Adolf Berle "I didn't say the result was good. I said it was the best I could do." Both Roosevelt and Churchill recognized the reality of Soviet power in 1945.

1. What he'll never mention is that the Korean War
was a UN action. Couldn't give them any credit for controlling North Korea, being wholly incapable himself.

2. I taught Post-War History...
to high schoolers for 30 years. Invariably some kid would ask why the US didn't just keep going and clean up those commie bastards.... probably heard that rant from his pre-neocon daddy.

My standard practice was to egg him on a bit, maybe recruit a few more kids into stating that position, then have them research the whole question. I'd draft some other kids into defending the way FDR and HST dealt with the end of the war in Europe, then have a debate.

The poor Kill-the-Commies kids always got creamed. The size of the Soviet Army was awsome, the US didn't have any more nukes, the length of supply lines.... on and on.... and on.

Bush is one of those little Anti-communist Crusader kids. In a debate, he'd get his ass handed to him. Luckily he doesn't have to debate.... he just RUNS THE FUCKING COUNTRY!!!! OMG!

3. Not to mention we didn't really have the right
even if the Soviet Army was tiny, even if we had tons of nukes.

5. What a turd!
FDR, Yalta, the commies, and post WW II politics.
Hey, * how about 2005? Seems to me that your place in
history (if we have a history) is going to be bad.

FDR = Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor = War on Japan
* = 9/11 al Qaeda, Saudi, & Paki intel attack on us = attack on Iraq.

Anybody know any Latvians? Can they keep 'em?
