Usually I can laugh at their ignorance and feel sorry for them for being so hostile.

But not tonight. They are actually saying that the kids at Kent State who died DESERVED IT!! Would someone please explain to me how students who were protesting an unjust war and got out of hand and threw rocks at the guardsmen DESERVED TO be fucking MURDERED?? For throwing rocks?

I thought I had heard it all but this just sends me over the edge.

I read an interview with a soldier somewhere the other day where he claimed a Captain in his unit ordered them to open fire on kids throwing rocks at them...

It never ceases to amaze me that these so-called "patriots" advocate killing people for exercising their constitutional rights. Personally when I see someone throw a rock at someone holding a gun I think David & Goliath..

18. Honey, as a Kent graduate (1990)

and former May 4 Task Force member who still keeps in touch with the wounded students, the victims families, and other former task force members, this ain't nothing I haven't heard or dealt with for the past twenty years. When I first started at Kent and became involved with the task force, I couldn't believe the ignorance and cruelty of people who simply refused to listen to any of the facts and who were actually gleeful over it. Then there were the locals who say that they should have shot more, or all of them should have been shot, etc., etc. Imagine if these were conservatives who'd been murdered, you'd have never heard the end of the howling for the past 35 years.

What the parents have suffered, though, is beyond belief, you should see some of the letters they've received and hear some of the bullshit they have to put up with. And to look at the grief and pain on their faces every year is sometimes too much.

But yes, this is the kind of shit we heard all the time and still do. It's a never-ending battle. You'd think that after 35 years the facts would have sunk in, but people have never let the truth get in the way of what they want to believe. People don't want to believe that those sworn to protect them can actually kill them if they express disagreement with their government's policies, so it's easier to blame the victims. Never mind that the nearest student shot was 70 feet away from the guard, and that all those shot were shot from the side or the back, some from several hundred feet away. I will always believe, and there's evidence to suggest, that it was done on purpose.

I try to attend the commemoration each year since I only live an hour or so away, this year was especially powerful. Allison Krause's boyfriend spoke publicly for the first time about it. She was shot from several hundred feet away, in the side and the back. She bled to death in his arms as they waited a half hour for the ambulances, she died in his arms in the ambulance. They had been inseparable since meeting the previous fall as freshmen, and he's never really gotten over that totally (how could anyone?)

Bill Schroeder was attending Kent State on an ROTC scholarship. He had a 3.3 GPA and was planning on a military career after he graduated. He was murdered while walking to class.

The biggest bible thumper I talk to online is all over this and claiming the protesters were violent and deserved to be shot. So I asked if she really thought that murdering them was a just punishment for throwing rocks. :mad:

I also pointed out that the Terri Schiavo protesters disrupted an entire neighborhood and a nearby school had to relocate its students, so does she think they should have been shot at?

How can these assholes call themselves pro-life? Their hypocrisy absolutely blows my mind.
