On Canadian networks there are hours of coverage of VE day.
There are tearful ceremonies at the gravesites of the all the young men killed freeing Europe. The last old veterans, and their proud families look for the gravesite of a fallen comrade or father. The grateful Europeans and their grandchildren give these old men flowers, thanking them for liberating them. Day after day there is live coverage. Why has American television forgotten this sacrifice?

2. All this week or next on our History Channel they are
devoting to VE day. Hosted by whatshisname Dye, some colonel/general whatever.

I've been watching the history channel a lot the last few weeks, that's how I learned of the VE rememberance.

Hope that helps. :hi:

4. Coverage in UK
Edited on Wed May-04-05 07:53 PM by bennywhale
Obviously there is a lot of coverage over here in Britain but i'm shocked none in America.

Isn't Bush not coming over to see vlad the impaler as part of the celebrations?

D-Day celebrations actually seemed to get more coverage last summer.

If you're ever in Europe by the way. Visit Yypres in Belgium. Every night at eight they close the menin gate (The gate is a 60 feet high stone arch and was built to remember the 40,000 British Soldiers who's bodies weren't recovered from the battle of Paschendale. Their names are all carved on it), then two local soldiers march under it and play the last post, then march off.

Its the most moving thing i've ever witnessed. I know it was WWI this is from but just thought i'd mention it, seeing as we're onto remembering.

Gotta love the Belgians

6. The US media have gotten the WORD that covering war is
verboten during the bush regime, any war talk might lead the US public to remember Iraq and that would NEVER do! It is appalling, imo, that all those who served and died are to be hidden away because the lies leading to the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq must also be hidden.
