An odd development in the dropping of Sirius by Air America
OK, I know Air America is expanding into my market soon and all that, but look at this odd thing on the Air America site:

They make it look like they're celebrating the fact that they were on two sattelite services before, and are now only on one of them.

2. Plus its the one that chops up their broadcast.
There must have been a bunch of money attached to this, they LOST a million+ potential listeners.....

11. XM does not 'chop up' the broadcast...
5AM-6AM ET Rachel Maddow
6AM-9AM ET Morning Sedition
9AM-Noon ET The Jerry Springer Show
Noon - 3PM ET The Al Franken Show
3PM-5PM ET The Ed Schultz Show
5PM-7PM ET The Randi Rhodes Show
7PM-10PM ET The Majority Report
10PM-1AM ET The Alan Colmes Show
1AM-5AM ET Mike Malloy Mike Malloy

AT PRESENT, they don't have the 1st hours of Randi.
Yes they have Schultz and Colmes and Mike Malloy is on a tape delay FOR NOW.

Expect by July 11 that Schultz and Colmes will be on a different channel (rumblings are a NEW, second left channel, but unconfirmed) and will have AAR 24/7 live.

XM also carries the ENTIRE Weekend Schedule

Laura Flanders
Ring of Fire
So What Else is News
Eco-Talk
Kyle Jason
Politically Direct
The Revolution Starts Now

the schedule is in a state of change, and will change (for the better) by July 11. That's why there is a 10 WEEK CHANGEOVER PERIOD between Sirius and XM. (167 on XM Became AIR AMERICA on May 1, the 'exclusivity' Starts on July 11)

Patience.

12. Malloy is on at 1:00 AM????!!!!! Sheesh!
I could never stay awake long enough to hear his show. Alan Colmes has Malloy's old time on Sirius. WHY????? the HELL would they put WIMP ASS COLMES on at a decent hour and relegate Mike to the AM hours? That's IDIOTIC! I think XM listeners need to write some emails!

14. Becasue Colmes contract...
.. was around before Malloy WAS EVEN ON AAR. They booted the Colmes reply for Mally and Rachel's new show.

This is all CONTRACT MANUVERING.. I wish to crap people would understand that.. you can't just 'wave a magic want' (or milk a horse) and change things INSTANTLY..

I can't believe people would HONESTLY THINK that AAR would DELIBERATELY MAKE A LONG TERM PLAN to chop off 2 hours of one show and keep the other tape delayed forever..

THIS SHIT TAKES A LITTLE TIME TO WORK OUT (and I speak from being in the broadcast/recording biz for 22 years before I retired...)

10. Thom Hartmann, Big Eddie, Young Turks...
That's still good. I'm disappointed too but what the heck, it's biddness (not very good business IMHO, but we're stuck). I do like Sirius music much better.

6. Like most businesses/advertising...
... everything is given to the spin doctors to make it sound positive, even if it is decidedly negative.

Few people are going to buy both Sirius and XM. I'm buying Sirius, so I guess I won't be hearing AAR.

7. The CEO of AAR was doing the same thing the week they made the announcemen
He was saying, (not an exact quote) We'll reach blah, blah millions on XM rather than blah, blah million on Sirius. He never mentioned that they were previously on BOTH, and that the effect of this exclusive deal is to cut off over a million loyal listeners.

I hope they're making a bunch of money on this deal, and it's worth it to them. I live in red state hell, where there won't be an AAR affiliate any time soon, and I can't afford to buy XM after I bought Sirius in December just so I could listen to AAR in the car.

Good luck XM and AAR. You'll have to make it without this formerly loyal listener.

9. Me too..My sons chipped in together to get me
"the best present they ever got for me. ( I am hard to buy for).. They got me a new radio (WITH A REAL KNOB) and sirius with a 1 yr paid subscription.. Just for AAR.. I do not listen to music radio.. They almost went for the lifetime subscription. I am so glad they did not do that.. When the time is up, I may switch, and give the sirius thing to my husband, but until then I will be AAR-less.. Truth-be-told, their programming is not as good as it should/could be..

13. Good Riddance!
Sirius Left is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better an AAR anyday.

They are probably leaving because Schultz and the gang are smoking them in terms of listenership.

15. Thom Hartmann on Sirius and Mike Malloy is being kicked out...
Edited on Wed May-04-05 07:49 PM by LaPera
of his time slot on XM for Dino Flintstones crossed-eyed little bro...lightweight moderate Alan Colmes...

So I have until July to decide if I'll stay with Sirius or switch to XM. But Malloy being pushed ahead another three hours, to 10 PM Pacific (1 AM Eastern) is making my decision to stay with Sirius much easier.

And now AAR will be in Chicago, starting tomorrow? Malloy has a lot of fans in Chicago. That won't help me though out here on the west coast.

It's back to the Internet if I stay with Sirius. Besides Hartmann who is great, Lynn Samuels makes me laugh, and the Young Turks are interesting...Though I despise Ed Schultz and won't listen to him...

Tough decision, to stay or go.
