One more "troop supporter" squelched.
At a seminar today, there was a photography exhibit in the room adjacent to our meeting. On our break, I went to look at the photographs which were all soldiers who have returned from Iraq with horrible injuries. A woman from the group walked into the room to see what was on display and immediately and repeatedly began to express her concern that "she just couldn't look at those pictures". She didn't want to see "all those people" and then wondered if the photos were real (she thought they were photoshopped?). Then she said that this was an inappropriate way to represent the troops.

I asked her to look at one that wasn't all that troubling visually, but the soldier's description of what had happened to him was hard to fathom. He had joined the National Guard and then took a $2999 bonus to join the Army. He was 100% disabled by his injuries sustained by shrapnel from a roadside bomb. Now the Army wants the $3K back. I commented, "That's supporting the troops, isn't it? I wonder how many of those people asking for the 3 grand have one of those yellow ribbon magnets on the backs of their cars?". She silenced and walked out of the room.

On the way out of the parking ramp, I saw her proudly-displayed hypocritical "support" of the troops on her car.

Poor baby. Just likes to see those crisp uniforms and hear the marching band. That's what soldiering is all about, right? Well, right?

6. Toby Keith doesn't have a song about schrapnel wounds and amputations
so it never occured to her that people really do get hurt.

2. Funny, the real world is much more complicated than it is shown .....
..... to the sheeple on Fox news. Easy to stick a magnetic ribbon produced
in China and sold @ Wall Mart on your ride than having to think about the
God awful costs of bush's war to produce terrorists.

4. Thank you for standing up
some people might not have said anything. (Plus think of all the pro-life rallies we've had to endure with pictures of aborted fetuses displayed for all the world to see.) We have to speak out for the troops. They are prohibited by policy from doing so themselves.

10. Sadly, I think many of those displaying the yellow ribbons mean to say....
Edited on Thu Apr-21-05 05:34 PM by JohnnyRingo
"I support Geo Buxh and any war he wants to participate in."

Of course like all generalizations, there are many who feel sincerity for the soldier's plight. I wish there was a way to tell the difference by looking at the ribbon.

On edit...
Nice job on this particular bushbot.
