*New Poll Released: Rhode Islanders Oppose John Bolton; Senator Chafee Should Do The Same

Over 80 percent of Rhode Islanders oppose the nomination of John Bolton for US Ambassador to UN, according to a recent survey taken by Zogby. The survey shows a growing disconnect between Senator Lincoln Chafee (R-RI), who continues to express support for the Bolton nomination, and his constituents, the majority of whom are opposed to the appointment. In addition, 55.6 percent of those polled said that should Senator Chafee vote for the John Bolton nomination, they would be less likely to support his reelection bid.

1. Get him to switch parties.
It's good for him because he can be who he wants to be and it's good for us because we pickup a seat.

2. The Conservative thing to do would be to PRESERVE

your options as much as possible in the U.N. Options = Power!

Bolton is not a Conservative with group options. He throws away dozens of things that could happen in a problem situation, potentials are thrown away in favor of a limited and rather private and previously determined secret agenda. Wastefulness, including wasted potentials, is/are not Conservative characteristics.

Bolton would eliminate many approaches before he or we even had a chance to be aware of them. His track records indicate that this is true. He is not Conservative enough for me.

3. Saturday morning update - I am not letting this die.

1. I have been in touch with the RI Dem party and alerted them to the fact that this is an event open to ALL.

2. The cross post in the RI forum - http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=176x231 has garnered ZERO responses. Overall, there are 229 total posts in the RI forum, perhaps there just are not too many DU'ers in RI.

Folks, this is a small event. If you attend you have a good chance of meeting and speaking with Senator Chafee, or a member of his staff or, at a minimum, a "wavering" republican. These people are not ogres, these are your traditional Yankee republicans. To give you an example of what can be accomplished in this size meeting, this past Tuesday night I attended the dem state party meeting. Albeit it was a dem event, I got to speak with one candidate for governor, 3 for lt gov, 1 for AG, and the state party chair and executive director.

If nothing else those attending the Chafee event will have some free food and perhaps influence some who are wavering.
