How Are DU Catholics Dealing With This Man Being Named Pope?
I feel for you guys. What a dilemma. Caught between love of church and faith and hatred for much of what this man stands for. I do not believe he represents ANYTHING that Jesus stood for.

1. I know a couple of DU Catholics who are none too pleased.

Would you be? It'd be like coming home to see that your golden retreiver has been transformed into a six-foot long tarantula.

3. If I were a Catholic, I'd be looking for a new church.
I'm trying to find some kind of silver lining in the election of Benedict XVI, but I'm having trouble. I just hope his reign is short and more moderate than we may think.

11. Well, if it's any consolation.....
There's a thread in the 'Meeting Room' which describes some prophecies by Nostradamus about the Aging Crony who Would Be Pope.

It seems that Nosty felt that Benedictus XVI won't be around for very long.
Just thought I'd bring some cheer.
We'll see.

4. I officially left the Church
I have been lapsed since 2000, but wrote my "resignation" out today.

I haven't sent it in. Maybe I keep hoping something will change this or something, but, I've been successfully teaching my son about Jesus at home and have not had to worry about the "vote for Bush or you're not a Christian" mantra I was hearing at church from 2000 on.

Dem's kicked ass in the Bolton Hearing.

Frank Luntz showed what a manipulator he was on The Daily Show. If you missed it, this thread has a link http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3510504 It is very good.

Frist is fricken insane - will he go through with his Holy Rollers Church Show this weekend? I heard the nuclear option may happen as early as next week.

Moving on - enough Pope. I'll deal with anything he throws out when it happens.

8. My Catholic friend is despondent and I the ex-Catholic
was trying to cheer him up. Give the guy a chance...he's been pope for about 12 hours. He may end up as a great pope. We simply don't know.

12. ratzinger who? this here catholic don't care. never have, never will.
the church is there for baptisms, catechism, marriage, last rites, and funerals, anything other than that....i'd rather be sorting my sock drawer.

see, the catholic church is like a yo-yo. you grow up in it, then leave. when something important like the seven sacraments pops up, then you get drawn back in.

just my opinion as a catholic.
