Labs scramble to destroy pandemic flu strain
‘Unwise’ decision to send out virus raises pandemic fearsThe

Associated Press
Updated: 9:30 a.m. ET April 13, 2005

GENEVA - Scientists around the world were scrambling to prevent the possibility of a pandemic after a nearly 50-year-old killer influenza virus was sent to thousands of labs, a decision that one researcher described as “unwise.”

Nearly 5,000 labs in 18 countries, mostly in the United States, were urged by the World Health Organization to destroy samples of the dangerous virus because of the slight risk it could trigger a global outbreak. The labs received the virus from a U.S. company that supplies kits used for quality control tests.

“The risk is low and we’ve taken appropriate action,” said Dr. Nancy Cox, chief of the influenza branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

There is no way this was let out to these labs by mistake. Nope, there is only one explaination that makes sense here. Plausible deniability, they are establishing plausible deniability and they can now pick and choose which patsy they want to blame when they unleash this stuff on all the mushrooms. That is why * just signed that executive order, the final crackdown.

Edited on Wed Apr-13-05 08:43 AM by havocmom
these days. They are the ones who have let the corporations write the laws, set the regulations and do their own enforcement. Now this from you source:

"The labs received the virus from a U.S. company that supplies kits used for quality control tests."

Beginning to think they want less people on the planet. Sure bet they want the people left beholden unto them. Any guesses about some sort of new fangled pharmaceutical they have ready to sell to the highest bidders?

8. More info on this release- FREAKY!!!
The virus that caused the 1957 “Asian flu” pandemic has been accidentally released by a lab in the US, and sent all over the world in test kits which scientists are now scrambling to destroy. There are fears the virus could escape the labs, as the mistake was discovered after the virus escaped from a kit at a high-containment lab in Canada. Such an escape could spread worldwide, as demonstrated in Russia in the 1970s.

The flu testing kits were sent to some 3700 labs between October 2004 and February 2005 by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), a professional body which helps pathology laboratories improve their accuracy, by sending them unidentified samples of various germs to identify. The CAP kits - prepared by private contractor Meridian Bioscience in Cincinnati, US - were to contain a particular strain of influenza A - the viral family that causes most flu worldwide. But instead of choosing a strain from the hundreds of recently circulating influenza A viruses, the firm chose the 1957 pandemic strain.

Anyone ever heard of Meridian Bioscience? They are the group that chose the 1957 pandemic strain out of hundreds of availabel for "blind testing" in labs throughout the world.

16. Maybe, maybe not, but the COVER STORY has been launched
for any pandemic that has ties back to this strain. Imagine if there is an outbreak, how are they going to determine the culprit now? So their alibi is rock solid.

19. I Assume Any Lab In The Vicinity Of An Outbreak Would Get The Blame.
I am skeptical of the cover story explanation. Maybe I'm just blind but, I think it being a massive fuck up is quite possible. Either way, bad mojo!

23. That's the point. "They" can launch a bioweapon attack anywhere
in the world now and it will simply be blamed on the "nearest lab".

Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain...we can be like they are
Come on baby...don't fear the reaper
Baby take my hand...don't fear the reaper
We'll be able to fly...don't fear the reaper
Baby I'm your man..."

21. I JUST POSTED AN UPDATE ON THIS STORY IN A NEW GD THREAD
HERE:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=3479258
Title: "Pandemic flu virus "accidentally" shipped worldwide - HOW AND WHY???"

I cited this thread and two others that were posted previously. One of the othe two threads (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x3477789) is still the best place for info on the possible insider trading by the Meridian (the company that made the kits) officers.

The new post has excerpts from FOUR stories updating the pandemic flu virus shipment story, including the Guardian UK story I posted as a reply to this thread. This will be huge today - even Fox News is covering how Rep. Markey (D-MA) has written a letter to Chertoff about it (http://www.foxnews.com/projects/pdf/markey_flu.pdf).

24. Here is a Canadian article on how the discovery
occured, etc. It is quite a comprehensive article.

Labs round globe told to destroy unlabelled flu strain seen as pandemic risk

TORONTO (CP) - Canadian authorities may have helped avert a possible influenza pandemic by discovering that laboratories around the globe had been sent unlabelled samples of a flu virus considered a top candidate to spark the next pandemic, the World Health Organization suggested Tuesday.

Between 4,700 and 5,700 laboratories in 18 countries, including 20 Canadian labs, have been told to destroy the samples of H2N2, which were distributed by the College of American Pathologists beginning last October.

The flu strain is deemed such a serious threat to human health that it can only be worked on in labs with a Level 3 biosafety/biosecurity rating in Canada and many other countries. Level 4 is the top grade, for highly lethal pathogens like Ebola virus.

snip

"Fortunately it was found fast by the Canadians after there was initial suspicion."

...around the World. I wonder if any terrorist organizations, or any unscrupulous lab technicians in any of the 5,700 labs has noticed the US delivering Grade A terror weapons into their hands!
