My 1000th Post Has Been Picked Up On The Web
Imagine my surprise when I go to one of the more dependable websites to get accurate information on the Iraq war and I see this:

Come Look Inside - Images of Iraq, Words of Martin Luther King

Chlamor, Democratic Underground

April 3, 2005

My 1.000th Post:Come Look Inside-Images of Iraq, Words of MLK

http://www.uruknet.info/?p=m11053

As someone who is clueless about the inner workings of the web I wondered how it got there. I do not care much for the number of the post and its significance, all that matters to me is that the images are seen and people will be moved to action.

1. as long as the truth gets out
strange though. my daughter used some of these photos for her senior project, and was accused of getting photos from a different war, not iraq.
some cannot face the realities of bombing civilians

11. It would be
an honor and any way to get the images out into the public sphere is the hope. I hope folks will pull these images off the computer via color printer, enlarge them and bring them to their town council meetings and other public venues.

Please put it on your website. Thanks DA

3. never forget--a post with any truth in it only helps the enemy
or something--

LOL--I wouldn't worry about it--someone read your post and liked it (or hated it) enough to post it on one of their own favorite forums, so it appears to me. It's a free country, with free speech, so far; you won't get in trouble for writing it. They gave you credit, of a sort, anonymous credit as Chlamor from DU. It's a compliment, I think, unless they are using the post to make you look bad. Are they?

I would shrug it off, unless something else happens.

4. This website
is quite a good place to get info on what is really happening in Iraq. I guess I sort of took it as a compliment but more just stared at the screen in a bit of shock. I think the website originates from Italy. I link to it daily to get reports from Iraq. One reason for the post was to have access to the images in a form I could then copy with a friends color copier. As we aren't seeing these images I want to try to get them out in public arenas. I will enlarge them to create a presentation along with info dissemination.

I want the madness to cease.

6. It's a compliment!
Hi, Chlamor

No mistery. I often visit Democratic Underground's Forum and I've read your post. It was really great. And so I reposted it on Uruknet.
Yes, we are Italians, I'm a University teacher and in particular I deal with Ancient Mesopotamia.

Greetings.

19. Thank You and Welcome Uruknet
for picking this up. Your site is most helpful. Please tell the So Many in Italy that there are many of us in the US who opposed the sanctions and the 14 year genocide of the Iraqi people by various forces in the DC beltway of which the Cheney administration is only the latest and most pernicious. We must also remember Madeleine Albright's comments that "It was worth it" referring to the several hundred thousand children who perished due to the sanctions. For those of us who are compelled to speak out and act up it is necessary to recognize the vicious nature of the neo-liberals as well as the obvious vicious nature of the neo-cons.

To those who see the images I urge you to make copies of the photos enlarge them and bring these 'unseen' horrors into the public view and psyche.

17. Search engines use varioius techniques to cull content from
the web. Those who run websites frequently employ techniques called "search engine optimization" in order to raise their site(s) rating so that it appears within the first 10-20 "hits."

Search Enginges, such as Google, have robot software scurrying around the net continuously to gather in the latest page upgrades -- sites that update frequently are noticed and get more scurries. Blogs and Forums some of the most rapidly updated website pages.

This is a major reason that more and more businesses and organizations have resorted to running forum (bulletin board) or blog software. Unfortunately, no one told them that boring topics will generate little content. It takes a lot of cooperation between websites to get returning visiters who are active.

Meanwhile, active blogs and forums are always culling articles and information from very active websites to come up with their own material for readership -- just as we're always quoting many other bloggers, they're quoting us.

I'm convinced that the day of attempted censorship is coming unless we duplicate and triplicate a good deal of the content online. This will "save" copies somewhere. The internet is highly volatile, not only in terms of daily changes, but in terms of people stopping forums, companies going out of business, etc. The more places that articles are disseminated, the more likely that some potential reader will find our stuff at some point along the way.

Congratulations :)
