Edited on Sun Apr-10-05 07:13 PM by UdoKier
It's a given that she's intelligent, articulate and appealing, but-

Hillary Clinton is...

1. Hillary has turned into Bush lite
Her Republican upbringing is coming on loud and clear.

2. Voted 'Other' --
-- I think Senator Clinton is . . . not to be underestimated.

I'm hoping our nominee will be further to the left and less polarizing.

But I think it is unwise to underestimate Hillary Clinton. I will always allow that she has the smarts to surprise us all.

My gut instinct, though, has her fourth in Iowa in 2008 behind Edwards / Bayh / Feingold.

6. How could our candidate be both
further to the left and less polarizing?

10. Hillary manages to piss off both the far left and the far right...
...while only getting lukewarm support from the middle.

One needn't be a "centrist" to win wide support. FDR and LBJ were both very liberal, and very popular across the board, and Reagan was extremely popular, despite his extreme right-wing policies. Hillary's personality and positions at key times on key issues have been polarizing. It's not her overall ideological makeup that's the problem.

13. The variables change with each election. JFK was more --
-- conservative than John Kerry; the times were different. Taken still farther, Lincoln was not at all of the same ideological stripe as say, Bob Dole. The election in the U.S. for president is a tension between personalities AND ideologies.

I understand Sen. Clinton's move to the right. She needs to shore up and occupy the "electable" base of the party.

But Kerry-Edwards won more Democratic votes than any Democratic ticket in U.S. history and they ran to the left of where Hillary is now.

5. If she can only muster 13% support on a democrat site...
Edited on Sun Apr-10-05 07:27 PM by UdoKier
How the hell is she supposed to get wide support on a nationwide basis?

7. DU isn't representative.
However, if she got the nomination, I think almost everyone on DU would vote for her. See the "A good democrat, but way too divisive to ever be president" option.

9. And this poll is just another attempt of the party to win over those that
KNOW BETTER than to fall for her "charms." What the hell do you people see in her? Yuck!

11. I like/hate her very much actually.
I'm always impressed by her, and I think she would be a great senator, from a more conservative state. I just don't think she has represented the will of her New York constituency well at all. She pisses me off a lot of times, but I also admire her, and she does do the right thing more often than not. Problem is, when she does the wrong thing
and sides with Bush, she does it in a big way and pisses a lot of folks off.
