Wuck Fal Mart and Clams Sub - we joined Costco yesterday
Not that Wal Mart or Sams Club lost customers in that action ... we never shopped there anyhow.

We found the whole Costco experience quite pleasant. Most of all we found the employees happy and helpful and cheerful. Wow! How many times do we visit stores where the employees clearly would rather be anywhere but there? Surly, rude, refusing to make eye contact, many of them with this little "tin dictator" attitude. Not so at Costco.

3. Costco is awesome! Did you sample?
That's a great lunch. Things worth checking out: the rotisserie chicken is awesome and so is the cherry pie. I buy the spring salad mix there -- same price as the grocery store but twice the size. I could go on and on.

I bought a new monitor there yesterday and I think I got a great deal on it.

What's also great about Costco is their return policy: no questions, no problems (except the usual for CDs and videos).

Congratulations!

4. I wish we had a Costco around here...
Edited on Sun Apr-10-05 04:13 PM by jaredh
All we have are Albertson's and Wal-Mart so I have to choose the lesser of the two evils which is, of course, Albertson's.

5. I joined Price Club in 1988 and Costco in 1990
They merged in the early to mid 90s. I love the place! I only buy things at the grocery store that I can't get at Costco. I also buy a lot of my clothes there.

6. Price Club and Costco merged?
I didn't know that. Price Club was the first warehouse we joined. Then BJ's moved in and we went there. Price Club just faded away. Then Sam's moved in but even back then I would not go near the place. Wal Mart without the decor! Ugh!

9. Yes, for a while it was called Price Costco,
a few years after the merger, they changed it back to Costco.

14. Price Club was started
by Sol Price in San Diego. Costco was started by a cousin from Seattle (thus the name of the house brand "Kirkland"- a suburb of Seattle). I thought that Costco basically took over the Price Clubs after the merger. Are there any Price Clubs left?

btw- the absolute best deal there has to be the 1/4lb Mt Sinai frank or polish sausage with soda (free refills!) for $1.50

7. My Fave Costco Stuff:
I swear I make the membership fee back just buying dish soap, laundry detergent, shampoo and conditioner there. The liquid laundry soap has no dyes or perfumes and it really works -- 96 loads for $11!

Both my girls love the big bottles of house brand (Kirkland) shampoo and conditioner -- 2 giant bottles for $6.

Great prices on prescription drugs and natural supplements too...

I also buy: red bell peppers, which my kids devour, 6 big resaurant quality ones for $6; the chicken ceasar salads, dinner for two for under $10; the fresh tomato basil soup from the refrigerated section DELICIOUS!! And the BIG PACKAGES boneless chicken breasts, $2.99 a pound, all individually wrapped for the freezer. Love the salad greens, green apples, all the produce is really good, top quality stuff.

I usually do a big CostCo run Friday night, use the hotline phone to order a pizza to pick up on your way out! Cuz I never have time to cook while putting away a week's worth of groceries.

8. Same here
We buy the Kirkland shampoo and conditioners and other cleaning supplies. Love the red or mixed peppers - do you get the sweet mini peppers? They are awesome. My sister loves the tomato soup, we can't get it here :(. One of our favs is the Margaritaville Island Lime shrimp, it's awesome and healthy! We also love the take and bake meatloaf and chicken pot pie. Their take and bake chicken parm may become a new household staple. Costco has great meats, poultry, fish and seafood.

I haven't seen the individually wrapped chicken breasts, I'll have to look for them. Another benefit is the Costco gas - I save between 10 and 14 cents a gallon.

I forget about so much great stuff. The seafood on weekends, and I don't like chicken pot pie but I do like theirs. All their meats and veggies are wonderful.

18. I love that lime shrimp too!
It's great when there's no time to cook! (I used to get it at BJ's, so I'm glad Costco has it too.)

I don't eat chicken, but we picked up some individually-wrapped Ahi tuna for tonight.

Some BJs standards we couldn't find yesterday: dried porcini mushrooms, frozen ravioli that cooks 10 minutes (it always seems better than the kind that cooks for 3 minutes, I don't know why!), jarred roasted peppers, sharp provolone, and some salamis H2S loves. Did we miss them? Otherwise we may have to keep our BJ's membership, too. :(

20. A few more we didn't find ......
Those SeaPak marinated grilled shrimp we use to make quesadillas, the stuffed clams that make a nice, filling, no work supper, the nova salmon and the lox, parmigiana reggiano, what else ...... ?

So yeah, we may keep both memberships ...... but I'm here to say that even after one visit before joining and one shopping trip after joining, these guys are great. BJ's will just be for fill ins (besides, they're in the same place where I've scored all those copper pots I can't seem to stop buying!).

25. Mine Has The Sliced Dry Salami & Thin Sliced Provolone
in sort of a twin pack, in the fridge section...I kind of think the stuff is regional, mine has LOTS of mexican stuff (guacamole, salsa, taquitos etc) but maybe just cuz it's SoCA?

10. Besides checking out the roast chicken...
they have the best pizza around and at a great price. I haven't had any of their prepared food that wasn't good. You're right about the employees. They're happy, helpful, and always there. In the 3 years I've gone to them, its always the same people and they seem to enjoy their jobs.

15. We love Costco to. The prescription glasses were less than 1/2
of what I have paid before. I get the rimless which can easily run over $500.00/w/my prescription trifocal lens. At Costco they were $240.00 and they were transition which would be extra anywhere else.

The meat is great, we are hooked on the salmon and you cannot beat the price.

16. Congratulations!
I buy a lot of books, movies, and CD's at Costco. Sometimes there are some good deals on really fine wines. Always pick up ink cartridges for the printer...cheapest I can find in town.

17. Their meats
All the embassy chefs in Washington, DC buy their meat at Costco, which is just a quick Metro (subway) ride under the Potomac at Pentagon City.

We've belonged to Price Club/Costco since the late eighties, and the place just gets better and better. Prices on things like phones, computer monitors, digital cameras can't be beat, and their produce is amazing.

They make up catering trays that are out of this world, and their bakery - don't get me started on how amazing their bakery is!!!

And they're SO blue!

19. Here's a true story!
Happened just this morning. My Aunt, who is VERY republican, told me that she is letting her Sam's Club membership lapse and joining...wait for it....CostCo!
She says that the CostCo is more convenient, closer, less expensive and is cleaner than Sam's. I was tempted to say "Also a damn site more democratic", but, I'm getting savvy!
I didn't say a word about Sam's politics. I just said I agreed with her on all points!

21. We joined Costco right after the election last year.
Love it. There's one about ten minutes from here, we were just there yesterday buying some things.

We're only three people, so we don't need a ton of stuff, but we do buy staples like canned beans, etc. there.

You can also get good deals on books, DVDs, etc.

22. Keep an eye out on ALL of those wholesale places:
Costco is too far away from me but I do have aSams membership to buy discounted, clearance, or "yeserday's" hardware that come from seemiongly nowhere. Anyway, I've noted that at Sams, SOME products cost the same or MORE than what you get at Target.

Target: A 32oz bottle of 409 costs $2.20.

Sams: A huge 128oz bottle of 409 costs $8.88.

No savings here and, in fact, Target gives you more of those cheaply made containers that leak all over the place when you squeeze 'em!

One day I'll do a larger comparison and make some inquiries.

Now for certain products, I don't care - I will get them there. Fortunately it's limited to only hard drives I use up when video digitizing/archiving.

27. Costco rules! I joined in 1988 (Price Club), and turned Hubby on to it
when we met. The coolest thing: We bought a bookshelf stereo there in 2000; it stopped working in 2003(!)...called Costco, they said "bring it back"! Took it in boxless, and they issued a store credit for the FULL amount! We were AMAZED!Also, if they have it in your area..they carry the most incredible, fresh-tasting salsa called "Chachies".
Best salsa ever!
