George W. Bush; CORRUPT to the core.
While everyone is focusing on the incredibly deeply totally corrupt Toxic Tom, let's not forget BUSH KNEW and BUSH PARTICIPATED in this incredibly deeply totally corrupt bullshit:

April 5, 2005 — The good news reached the Jamestown, N.Y., office of Dr. Rudolph Mueller in a fax from a congressman in Washington. Mueller had been named 2004 Physician of the Year. "My secretary came running in and said, 'Dr. Rudy, look at what you've won, you're Physician of the Year,' " said Mueller, an internist.

But to receive the award in person at a special two-day workshop in Washington last month, Mueller found out that he would have to make a $1,250 contribution to the National Republican Congressional Committee. It was a disturbing discovery, he said.

...

To see what the award process was all about, Mueller sent in his $1,250 contribution and ABC News paid for his travel to Washington for the scheduled events March 14-15, which included a tax-reform workshop as well as appearances by House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, and President Bush.

Mueller soon found he was not the only winner. There were hundreds of Physicians of the Year present, many of whom found the criteria for being selected equally as opaque.

1. Republican Con
Google "Nigerian Scam". This flim-flam is also called "advance fee fraud". The Republicans are using a slightly modified tactic for the same corrupt purpose: preying on people's vanity and gulliblilty to separate them from their money.

It's well known within US investigative and regulatory circles that the Nigerian scammers are criminals. I won't hold my breath waiting for them to similarly denounce the Rethugs.

"A Republican spokesman said there were thousands of doctors around the country content with their Physicians of the Year awards, and that there was nothing about the program to apologize for."

How much more of IN YOUR FACE AGAIN can a republican get?

6. Nothing new. I worked in 2 law offices 1999-2002. We received several
phonecalls, maybe once every 2 months, from the same organization, except my bosses were allegedly nominated for "Businessman of the Year" and they had to pony up approximately $2,000 to the National Republican Party or something in order to claim it. Sort of like paying for your winning lottery ticket. I wonder how many "professionals" take the bait and then proudly display their placque in their offices..

13. a tax-reform workshop?
So, this bogus award is really supposed to recruit new Republican activists to go home and lobby for the middle class to be further screwed? I wonder what other "workshops" these vaunted award winners attended.

This is so completely sickening.

14. The "award" is now a liability.
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 09:22 AM by Mugsy
From now on, if I see such an "award", I'll know how they got it, resulting in the opposite-than-intended effect.

And now that so many people have seen/heard of the story, hopefully they will regret "buying their award" in the first place.

missed your posts? This bushitler posse just never ceases to amaze me. They could say the moon was made of cheese, people would believe and they would get away with it and have it taught in schools to no mice left behind!

*whisper* I'm posting on the sly; hubby's mostly away for last & this week on army biz, so I snuck back in here... :D

So if we all decided to call people up and say give us $1200 each for your Great American Patriot of the Year Award and weekend conference, and then showed them F-911 and all the BBC's Iraq documentaries & Abu Ghraib torture videos & photos, this would NOT be a fraudulant scam, according to the repugs?

Hmmmmm... :D

18. The damage DeLay has done to the credibility of govt is mind-
boggling.

Worse is what he's done to the republican party. If the repubs had any sense they'd be hanging him by the balls themselves.
