the Jerusalem Post is calling and quoting the Sharon gov't of being willing to "Assinate/Eliminate/Get Rid Of/.... Arrafat"

2. Israel has always got away with anything it wanted

murder, terror, ethnic cleansing, including intentional attacks on Americans, such as when they killed 34 American servicemen in the attack on the USS Liberty, or more recently when they murdered Rachel Corrie.

Why should they expect anything different from killing Arafat?

4. if Sharon really wanted Arafat dead, he would be already

imho this "trial balloon" is being floated for some political purpose. maybe to shore up Sharon's support from his right wing. maybe to help rehabilitate Arafat among Palestinians, in preparation for some kind of sellout deal which only Arafat could get away with, due to his standing as a "living martyr". or, maybe it's a form of blackmail to get more US aid to Israel - we have to pay them not to assassinate Arafat.
