2. I loved that site!
Wish someone would revive it. And the media really paid attention to it. Aaron Brown really got his panties in a twsit after he was honored with the Whore of the Week. He wouldn't shut up about it.

7. The story I read -- and it could be rumor, so far as I know. . .
is the writers of the site are working journalists who either got too busy with paying jobs to continue the project, or their identities were somehow at risk of being divulged, so they closed up the website to give themselves more time or to protect their jobs, whichever assumption you wish to believe.

Again, could just all be bull so far as I know, but that's what I picked up in the months since it stopped being updated.

I may be mistaken, but just about the time MediaWhoresOnline closed up, I found Media Matters for America. For all I know, it could be the same people involved and they closed Horse out of a belief such a confrontationally-named site wouldn't have much luck effecting change.
