Remember the Ellie Nesler vigilante case (warning: 0% Schiavo content)?
Edited on Thu Mar-31-05 06:24 PM by Ladyhawk
It happened in my home town and now the son that was molested at a bible camp is on trial for murder.

"Willie Nesler, whose mother shot and killed his accused molester in a Gold Country courtroom more than a decade ago, turned himself in to a Sacramento bounty hunter Wednesday.

"He had spent 10 days running from murder charges of his own.

"Family members had said they were worried Tuolumne County sheriff's officials - who said Nesler was armed and dangerous - might not take him alive.

"'He didn't get shot, thank God - that was my biggest fear,' said his aunt, Jan Martinez, of Angels Camp."

_____________

I was going to post about this awhile back. The last I heard some fundy lawyer nutjob was going to represent Nesler. The lawyer is really into the idea of having the ten commandments posted outside every courtroom. Whatever.

I'm just wondering how much the molestation event, coupled with his mother's vigilantism, affected how this young man turned out. There's no way to know for sure, but I really wasn't surprised to learn that he allegedly killed someone.

Sigh.

Sometimes I fucking hate this town. OK, I like the county and town. It's just the people I can't stand. :)

2. Yeah...funny thing is I was molested here, too...
...by a church member. The town took the side of the molester back then--at least the ones who knew. Bizarre, huh?

When Nesler killed Driver, I couldn't get on the "Support Nesler" bandwagon. I had such mixed feelings about the whole thing. I was familiar with the rage that such an assault brings about, but I felt it was important to let the system at least try to work.

The system failed me and caused me a lot of pain when I had to testify in front of the defendant at a very tender age. The Nesler family were no saints, but I think Ellie wanted to prevent that pain for her son. Instead, she caused another kind of pain. Had my mother blasted the guy who molested me, I think it would have caused way more harm than good.

Yeah, the whole thing is just a nasty tragedy. Willie...poor kid. He never really had a chance at a normal life.

3. If I recall from when I lived there,,
Hasn't Willie Nesler been in and out of trouble with law enforcement when his mother was still in prison and after ser was released?

There were a lot of Ellie supporters in the south part of the county where I lived back then. I could understand the rage she would have about the molestation of her son, but I couldn't get behind the 'Love Ellie and what she did'. The man was in court to answer to the charges when went in with her gun. It wasn't like the county DA's office was doing nothing about it.

BTW, I know what you mean......living in that county can be great but it can also get to you.

5. Yeah, Willie has been in trouble a lot before this.
And yes, living in this county can get to a person. During the peace vigil tonight, we were told, "Go home, hippies." I ain't a hippy--not that it would matter--and I was fucking born in this town. Why am I still here?

I love the town, but can't stand some of the people. I feel kind of torn, you know?
