C-SPAN debate on re-instating military draft up shortly!!
Just turned around to see it announced. It didn't give a time, but said they would leave whatever programming they had on to go to live coverage when it happens.

3. What will the political cost be to Bush and the GOP if it's reinstated?
THAT should be one of the critical questions.

8. I agree
During the campaign Bush said there will be no draft and of course all his little followers agreed. If they do have a draft it'll be something secret. Maybe that's why they have the whole Terri Schavio fiasco. That's what worried me. What they were up to. Now I know. They'll have it someway. And people said it wasn't going to happen. Ha! Ha I say. It'll happen someway. Bush wants more war and we'll be in Iraq for years unless people demand them to come home like in Vietnam days. So there's two options I think to this. 1) It'll be done in secret 2) Something will have to happen again to make people want to join the military like after 9/11. :\

4. There will be no draft....
Just go about your lives. Carry on.

It will be interesting to see what the repercussions, if any, there are from this being broadcast as a possibility...

5. It gives me an odd feeling
like Bushco is 'testing the waters' for public opinion on a draft.

11. Phillip Carter is Going On About How Many Troops We Need...
...more countries to invade, y'know.

He is calling it "national service" and not using the "D" word.

and chickenhawks!

but very feeble opposition to the draft.

He said we'd need a draft if (when) we go into Iran.

Now Mark Shields, the moderator, is speaking in favor of it.

They are trying out the talking points they will use.

10. I hope the Democrats abstain from voting on the draft.
If we need a draft it's because of Bushler's warmongering. If it has to be reinstated then let the GOP do it alone.

14. Fat chance
politically, war is popular right now. However, some dems want popularity and some dems know the quickest way to end the blood lust in this country will be to institute the draft.

16. But who wants to fight it?
I haven't heard of many republicans wanting to go and fight it. Obviously since they're having this chat. So if war is popular now who's signing up?

15. Two radio announcers were making the joke earlier...
"The President's approval numbers are lowest ever... Keep an eye out for another war with Iran.", I laughed when I heard, but it's even more scary because it's true.

21. It is not so much what is said, look at what is done
The Selective Service Boards have been reconstituted. Money has been allocated for these boards to function. There is a lot of rhetoric about instability and countries prone to instability are being listed. Syria has been ordered out of Lebanon. Iran is accused of having nukes and rumblings about Iran purchasing missiles to make the Persian Gulf uncrossable. Posturing by China over Taiwan. The ever present 'evil' country North Korea. The dominion plans of PNAC are still on. Financial insecurity of the dollar. Price of oil going through the roof. These guys are steering us into a World War.

Will there be a draft? You bet there will be, no matter what it will be called. THE PLANS cannot be achieved without some form of involuntary conscription.

24. I don't think it will be like 'Nam
This time around, the media is fully choked. It will play out like WWII, with shifting allies and enemies.

The 'people' will be all for it and anyone against it will be either put in jail, disappear or be censured by 'public will'.

It's gonna get very nasty. It won't be just the government agents going after war protesters, it will be the neighbors. The media blitz will guarantee public support for the war.
