T-shirt request (Flag Code)
There was a thread a couple days ago where a veteran posted how disturbed he (or she) was by improper use of the flag, and they quoted the pertinent item from the flag code. I got to thinking that would make a great t-shirt--no picture of the flag, just quotes from the code.

Maybe--
US Flag Code, Title 4, Chapter 1
Sec 8d The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery.
Sec 8i The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever.

I would love to have something like this that I could wear on the 4th of July. I'm hoping one of the DUers that does this kind of thing will agree with me.

8. Be sure and get the paragraph that talks about proper disposal
of a worn or tattered flag. Hint: it involves F I R E.

2. From someone who has been there,
My advice is don't. It really bothers me too, but it's the fight we will not win. People like having the flag on their disposable napkins and their slingshot brief underwear (I beg, no G. Gordon Liddy pictures, please!) and when you say something to someone, all you are going to get is a faceful of yelling. The nicest thing I've been told is to get a life.

11. Point taken,
but I am prepared for any consequences of wearing such a shirt. I live in a crimson red county and steeled myself every time I went out last year wearing my "John Kerry...Bringing Complete Sentences Back to the White House" or "11-02-04 The End of an Error" shirts. To my surprise, I never heard any negative comments and I received a lot of positive ones. (My own anecdotal evidence of why I think the election results were suspicious.)

Even had a flag covered breast pump in the links. Trying to find it.
Was really grotesque.

Keep us updated on DU. I would put the flag upside down as well on the bottom of the listing.

So, You Think You're A Patriot?
Flag Code ....

I think thats a great idea. Also of note in the code:

§ 6. Time and occasions for display
(a) It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.

These car flags don't seem very illuminated at night. I've never seen anyone take it off their (be it a sticker on the back or the cheasy window flags) when they are done driving for the day.

Also, on that note:

(b) The flag should not be draped over the hood, top, sides, or back of a vehicle or of a railroad train or a boat. When the flag is displayed on a motorcar, the staff shall be fixed firmly to the chassis or clamped to the right fender.

(c) No other flag or pennant should be placed above or, if on the same level, to the right of the flag of the United States of America
(I see these damn ribbons to the right of the flags on the back of cars all the time)

(j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations.
This I did not know.... so those little leagers really shouldn't have their patches either (or MLB for that matter)

Isn't that desecration?
