6. Ya know, it's very weird the things people really believe.
I've posted before that I experienced a situation very similar to Terri's in my Uncle a number of years ago. It was the first time I voiced my wish NEVER to be kept alive like that! There was no family argument, because, at least then, in the State of PA. once a feeding tube was inserted, it could not be removed!

During the very long time my Uncle was in this vegitative state, he made noises the same as Terri. His son was absolutely convinced that his father recognized him when he talked to him, and he tried to really speak words to him. None of the rest of us ever believed that, nor did the Drs taking care of him. I know my cousin. He's a very intelligent guy, aand is never swayed by weird stories or superstitions, but I think he wanted his dad to recognize him so badly, he saw and heard what he wanted to so much.

I have my doubts about the Schindler family, but I do know it is possible that they really believe what they're saying.

13. And therein is the fallacy of hope
Edited on Sun Mar-27-05 06:46 PM by Freedom_from_Chains
I have recently been contemplating the story of Pandora's box and the fact that along with the pestilence and disease of the world came hope. The Schaivo case is somewhat providing me with a case in point.

I agree with you that Terri's family does believe that all of these things they are alleging, are in fact true. They really do believe that the grunting sounds she made the other day, which doctors say is involuntary, are Terri trying to say she wants to live.

That is sometimes what happens with people who, when confronted with a reality they do not want to accept, do, they resort to hope. And hope can cause us to see and believe things that just are not true, so the question, does hope work for us or against us, is a valid question.

I am beginning to lean to the side that hope, like belief, is something we might be better off without.

8. To be honest, this case does bring that Bible verse to mind for me
However, I don't exactly believe that this is some grand, ultimate test. I doubt that Jesus wants someone to kill police (which you would have to do) to bring her a glass of water (which would kill her).

12. Yet they ignore the homeless and hungry on a daily basis...
They glorify war and killing -- methinks they cry crocodile tears. This is a "safe" case for them to experience emotional ecstasy and feel holier than thou.

They make me :puke:

14. Please EXPLAIN what a fucking hospice is to these morans!
Both my grandfathers died in a hospice and it was a very peaceful death. Do they know what the term means? A place for people who are DYING, not gonna get better, DYING!

Insano trolls who lurk - if GOD wanted her to live, he would do something about it! He hasn't so GO FUCKING HOME!
