Just got this via email. It's brilliant!
Dear Friends: If you’re like me, you’ve been alarmed by the recent federal intervention in the Terri Schiavo case. The silver lining, of course, has been that it has prompted people all over the country to think about and discuss their own end-of-life wishes and to communicate them, in writing, with their loved ones.
However, these issues, personal as they are, are clearly not solely in our hands these days. I have therefore taken the step of sending my living will to my elected representatives, including Rep. Pete Sessions, Sens. John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison, and President George W. Bush.
If you haven’t already written a living will/advance directive, I urge you to do so. I also urge you to send it to your elected federal representatives. (I also shared with them my thoughts on their recent intervention in the case, which was shameful and represented the very worst of political pandering to the Religious Right.)
Please feel free to share this suggestion with any and all friends, relatives, mailing lists, etc.
You can get your representative's contact info at:
http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/I'm going to fax them right away. Email would work too, but I think fax is better -- I want them to see the entire living will, notary stamp and all. I may even request that they keep it on file, just in case.
Edited to add: if you like and/or you're gonna do this, please kick. the boards are moving fast lately!
