WASHINGTON -- By a margin of almost 2-to-1, likely Florida voters feel strongly that Congress and President Bush should have stayed out of the battle over Terri Schiavo's fate, according to a new poll conducted this week for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and Florida Times-Union.
Echoing the views of other Americans polled in recent days, 63 percent of likely voters in the state disapproved of the intervention last week by Congress and the president that gave federal courts jurisdiction over the case.
Among Republicans, 56 percent disapproved of the intervention and 41 percent approved. Among Democrats and independents disapproval rates were 67 and 68 percent, respectively.
The poll, conducted this week by Maryland-based Research 2000, surveyed 600 likely voters in Florida. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
