Fundies, You Dance On Quicksand.
The poor Dutiful Sheep have once again been galvanized into Righteous Action by their flawlessy-coiffed, Armani-suited Pastors. Bibles in hand, they are marching--onward as to war, with the Cross of Jesus going on before--to "save" Terri Schiavo from being starved to death by the heartless Judges!

Easy as it would be to hate the Fundies, I am somehow feeling the very compassion of Christ for them--no easy thing for such a heathen savage as I. They are being USED and they don't even know it!

For a generation or better, their "Shepherds" have told them what their duty is: to stand AGAINST Wrong and FOR the Message of Jesus. To go forth and witness against Evil. The Dutiful Sheep have responded by tirelessly showing up in front of every abortion clinic in America to cry against the practice that goes on within. Goddess, how many of them have been hauled to jail for their Loyalty and have consequently had to juggle the household bills just to pay their own bail!

The crying part of all this is that these Christian Soldiers are, deep in their souls, good and decent people. I have lived closed to Evangelicals and Holiness Church members for most of my life--and you could not ASK for better neighbors! Sure, they'll try to save your pagan soul now and then, but you just get down on your luck and watch how QUICK they show up with a pot of soup or a tractor to break up your garden!

Now, their so-called leaders have commanded that they go and fight against those who would KILL TERRI. Their Church tells them to do a thing and they respond without hesitation. O, my Dear Neighbors! Can you NOT see, will you not even consider, that your kind-heartedness is being used for some very cynical and heartless purposes???

The people whom your preachers ultimately serve (hint: it AIN'T Jesus), the very ones who tell you that it is your duty to obey the law, wish to have the law re-made to suit their desires. You are being sent forth to "show" that all judges in America are "agin the Bible," that it is time for the appointment of New Judges--who will uphold Christianity.

Trouble is, which branch of Christianity are they talking about?

You, my good neighbors, my own blood kin, are on some very dangerous ground here lately. Given the preponderance of opinion and the rulings of the very law that you have been taught for centuries to OBEY, you are risking your standing in the community--the very existence of your movement--by putting your caring hearts into a fool's errand.

George W. Bush and those to whom he answers (hint: it AIN'T Jesus) are USING you to get the Judges that THEY want appointed. When those Judges take their seats, they will owe some pretty onerous favors to those who put them in power. Who's to say that those same Righteous Judges will not someday come for you--for believing in the WRONG JESUS?

Come to my house and let us break bread. We need to talk.

2. And what do you want to bet the judges will be more pro-corporate...
than pro-life?

Used like rented mules.

4. Nail on the head post!
I've got born-agains to the right of me & fundies to the left of me, too, & you said one meaningful mouthful in your fourth paragraph. Most have been used & deluded by one institution after another for a majority of their lives, declared misfits, & it is with high desperation that they now cling to what they cannot see.
