I spoke with my rw mother about my abortion tonight
We were discussing Terri Schiavo and she supports Terri Schiavo's right to die in peace. She is disgusted with the display at the hospice and outraged at the things these people have done and said.

We then got on the subject of this being a personal and private decision the government has no right to be involved in. We both agree on this.

Then came a talk about Operation Rescue and Randall Terry. She's disgusted with this as well. I should say she really hates even thinking about my abortion. She's known about it for years.

I told her that I didn't wake up one day and decided to have one on the spur of the moment. I thought about it a long time and felt I had no other options. I still feel that way. I told her that this was a personal decision that wasn't easy to come to. I explained I will live with this choice for the rest of my life just as every woman who makes it as well. No one can walk in my shoes and no one can make it for me. The government has no place in it.

I think she's closer to understanding what being pro-choice means. I told her she can still be against abortion but support a woman's personal choice whether they complete their pregnancy or not.

She came away with a lot more to think about from what I could tell.

4. FYI
I'm a man & you really got me all misty eyed thinking about you and other brave women who find themselves faced with this kind of situation.

You might be interested to know, some of us men have very deep feelings about these issues, especially when we are the other half of the equation.

Prying eyes or judgmental opinions are truly not welcome in these moments.

5. I was watching ESPN and Billie Jean King was talking about her abortion.
Morley Safer (sp?) was asking her if she would someday regret it, regret that while she was playing tennis "life had passed her by".

I blanched. It stunned me, because I have never heard anyone ask an extremely successful, top of their game male athlete if they would regret that life had passed them by. It was weird.

(This was ESPN classic, it was an interview from the seventies.)

8. I agree
Yesterday I was listening to Rhandi and she was talking about Randall Terry. Real piece of work. Oy! If nobody heard that you should. Tons of dirt on him.

7. Nice!
I'm glad you and your mom are now having common ground. Maybe there is some good from this! People are understanding something. :) I'm glad of this.
