1. Will we "be" at all?
I'm not sure we can survive five more years of this.

3. agree...
don't know if we'll even be around in 5 years.

I never thought in my close to 50 years on this earth that I would ever say that.

5. Feeling a little hope...
... are we? I do that periodically, then the issue changes, and the dumbshits are at it again.

Stupidity abides, and we got a whole shitload of it here.

8. A country without me and my wife in it, I'd imagine
Either that, or we'll be fighting with the Resistance in the Sierra foothills, looking to free Cascadia.

11. We Are Fast Losing the Remaining Vestiges of Democracy
In 5 years they will no longer feel any need to keep up the pretense.
Elections, if they even hold them anymore, will have all the significance
that they did in Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq.

Surely tampering with Social Security would be electoral suicide --
if elections were ever expected to matter again.

The bankruptcy bill only helps a handful of credit card companies,
while doing great harm to thousands who were driven into bankruptcy
by illness (where medical bills frequently outrun even the best of
health insurance policies) or military service for our country (at
wages that are a fraction that many reservists were earning in
civlian life, and often for far longer than they signed up for)
or identity theft (which can happen to anyone these days). Most of
the abuse of bankruptcy law occurs at the corporate level, and this
bill did nothing to curb that.

They have just turned the ANWR over to the oil companies.

They have been waging war under false pretenses for several years now,
causing the death of over 1500 of our servicemen and uncounted Iraqis.

They have brought shame and dishonor on our nation. We are now reviled
around the world.

They pander shamelessly to the Dominionists, and appear quite willing
to let them become our Taliban. The robber barons love it, because
no theocracy, however repressive, has ever been removed by its own
people.

Is this a regime that is in any way answerable to the people?

13. We'll have a new president
either Clinton or McCain.

Either way, the country will be moving in a significantly different direction.

Let's not get melodramatic.
