Michael Reagan diagnoses Terri, and blames Howard Dean for it all.
Michael, shame on you. Howard Dean has not made a diagnosis. You just made one. Howard Dean says legislators and others should not make diagnoses. He didn't, you did. Shut up, Michael.

Making Sense
Killing Terri
by Michael Reagan

March 24, 2005
Thursday

"Democratic national chairman Howard Dean is on the stump trying to convince red state voters that his party has values. This leads me to ask if one of those values the Democrats supposedly champion is the death by starvation of Terri Schiavo. Is this the way they seek to prove they are the party that cares about people? "

In his final days, my dad Ronald Reagan, had no quality of life, could not feed himself or take care of himself, communicate in even the most rudimentary way, and lay bedridden and mute, a terrible burden on Nancy. Should I have told Nancy to stop feeding my dad so he could die and she could go on with her life?

And if I had, would not the nation have risen up in justifiable outrage and demanded that his life be preserved until God called him home?

Doesn't Terri Schiavo deserve the same concern, Dr. Dean?...."

3. That begs the question
What did his dad want? If he wanted to die with dignity and no feeding tubes then that was his right. I guess Ron cannot conceive of anyone thinking that way.

lol...

No reason to get into that argument, this is a bed the Republicans made and Republican judges ruled on the case.

A rational reply to your accusation is virtually impossible. Therefore, the best I can do is suggest that you go eat a large bowl of pig shit.

requiring the disconnection of a feeding tube, the RW'ers would've been lionizing him for his selflesslness and bravery. ("Just like the Gipper to go out like a man")

Someone pull Michael's plug. Please.

10. "terrible burden on Nancy"
yes it was Nancy who was feeding, changing, diapering, and cleaning Ron every day. I'm not saying Nancy wasn't devastated by what was happening to her husband, but I keep hearing about Nancy the caregiver. Come-on!! Unlike thousands of real people who can't afford live in nurses I doubt Nancy Reagan beared the brunt of the caregiving.

Alzheimer's is not the same as Schiavo's condition.

13. Michael, if your Dad had told you he did not want intervention to
keep him alive, then yes you should have, and so should have Nancy. This issue about Terri isn't about should you terminate someone's life is they are incoherent, it's about the patient being treated as they wanted!

Get your facts straight!

19. "death by starvation of Terri Schiavo"
Starvation? Once again it's 24/7 Terrivision yet another "really" concerned person who doesn't even know what Terri is likely to die of.

20. Michael, I like a lot of things about you, but you are wrong on
this. Like you, I lost my father to Alzheimer's. Your father's final days, like my father's, did not last for fifteen years. Your father, like mine, was not kept alive with a feeding tube after he lost the capability of eating. They died when their lives were over.

Terri's life ended years ago. Just as it would have been cruel and unjust to attach your father, and mine, to respirators and feeding tubes to keep their bodies alive for as long as possible, so it is unjust and cruel to further prolong the existence, which is not life, of the body that was Terri Schiavo.

An Alzheimer's patient is not a person in PVS. An Alzheimer's patient will collapse in on himself and eventually die as his organs fail. But Terri Schiavo was a young woman whose organs could remain functional for years -- all organs except that most important one, the brain. If her brain was whole, or even damaged but intact, there might be reason to hope. But with the cerebral cortex liquefied there is, in the words of Gertrude Stein, no there there. Her only remaining act is to pass on. She should be allowed to do so.

22. Oh, Michael, Judge Greer should not diagnose either. Get the facts.
SNIP..."Look at it this way if you are going to be the judge, and at the same time act as the jury deciding if a person lives or dies, should you not at least go visit the person to determine for yourself her true condition? Over the seven years that Greer has been active in the Schiavo case he has never even once bothered to see the woman over whom he has the power of life and death...."

Michael, that is not the job of the judge.
