2. Advice to Michael Schaivo:
Do not be in the room alone with Terri under any circumstances. If she passes away while you are alone with her you will be tried for murder.....

have witnesses with you at all times....

I know you want/need to say goodbye to her, but for your own sake don't do it alone.

13. That post puts everything that is disturbing about this quite succinctly.
Somehow that just puts the entire issue in a nutshell for me.

Imagine what would happen if only the parents were in the room when she finally is able to rest.

3. Reinserting the tube is a procedure
The hospice, a place where people go to die, is accustomed to doing what is necessary to make people's last moments as comfortable as possible. They wouldn't secretly try to keep Terri alive.

8. There may still be an abdominal tube for medication administration
all that someone would have to do is plug a bag of nutrients in via a "Lopez Valve", and start the feeding.
I work with such patients and often the tube is left in but only used to administer morphine.

9. I also don't think they have the facility to do it.
On another thread I read that if one of these courts ruled to reinsert the feeding tube, Terri would be moved to some hospital to have it done.

16. The other day, I heard (just one) report say they blocked the tube.
I've seen a tube once, but that's all I know about them. How is it typically done? Do they actually remove the tube, block it, or leave a part in for reconnection?

11. There are police inside and outside of the room, from what I've
read. And remember that she's in a hospice. Hospice professionals are taking good care of her.

15. No way.
Hospice workers are truly angels on Earth. If saints exist, it's them. There may be Fundamentalist hospice workers, but not Fundie ones.

the "religiously insane."

As a believer, I think that makes a very comfortable distinction between me and, well, the religiously insane.

20. They ARE insane
This isn't religion or Christianity -- these people literally have something wrong with them. I'm specifically talking about the people outside of the clinic.

17. Doubtful--Hospice doesn't lend itself to that type of personality.
You know, that pesky "death is inevitable, let's make what's left as pleasant as we possibly can" ethos kinda goes against the grain of those that think Jesus can make PVS patients sing and tap dance.

FWIW, I believe in a spiritual divinity and hope that there truly is an afterlife, though I remain unconvinced.

18. Not likely. The hard-core fundies generally don't like the hospice
idea. A hospice is a place where people go to die with dignity. Many patients, if not most, are not on any kind of life support. That is antithetical to the most hardcore fundies.
