DUers: Please help me compile a list of media circus stories
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 02:16 PM by LoganW
People, do you realize how many REAL issues have been suppressed and utterly ignored while the media cherry picked yet ANOTHER non-issue to focus on 24/7?

Anyone remember CNN/FOX panic over shark attacks? Every time there was a swish in the water around America, the media was there to find out if it was a shark attack or not.

Scott Peterson? Kobe Bryant?

I'm getting truly sick of these rove distractions. I would like to compile a list of these non-stories, and then I'm going to post them on a dedicated web site organized and detailed to expose this crap.

Basically I am looking for every story with the following criteria:

* CNN/FOX/MSNBC all covered it.

* It went on for days, weeks, or even longer.

* The story was either

1. Based on a total non-issue.

2. Based solely on an individual.

3. Based on something that regularly happens, yet was cherry picked above and beyond all other similar stories. (i.e. Scott Peterson murder)

4. Or was otherwise undeserving of the coverage it received.

* Received more coverage than all other stories, even those with far more significance.

I am referring to these as "media circus" stories or distractions because that's what they are.

Any stories that occurred at a very convenient time for bushco (read: obvious rove distractions) also count.

There have been so many I've forgotten a ton of them. That and I don't let my self be taken in by them, nor do I watch FOX or CNN on any regular basis.

Anyway, I think if we could compile a list it would be very, very interesting to see.

2. Sorry, this issue is as "real" as it gets for me.
The fundies are ready to hand America over to becoming a police state under Bush and Bush over this.

The judicial branch is again being called "activist" while the legislature makes new laws because the Republicans didn't get their way.

This is not a non-issue to me.

3. And are you aware
that with out the media about 30 people tops in the entire country would know this persons name?

6. I'm no media "fan" but this case matters. A lot.
Let the media show them parading this poor woman's "videos" around. Let the media show her "nurse" discussing her menstrual cycle. Finally people are becoming rightfully disgusted with the Republicans and their intrusive big government.

4. Schiave, Jacko, Peterson,OJ (the grandaddy of them all)
Jon Benet Ramsey, Diana's car crash,

they're kind of like hard candy.. you suck on them for awhile, then you forget them..

5. Exactly
the fact that so many are forgotten and disappear in a 24 hour period after coverage stops probably is another good indication of a distraction.

7. Elizabeth Smart ad nauseum should be included-is
that going back too far?
And it's not just about what's covered 24/7, it's what's not even ever mentioned. The lack of news that's 'fair and balanced'is appalling.
