Red Lake
Has Bush or the administration had any response to the Red Lake school shootings? I want to know.

1. There has been no response from Shrub, nor has there been
any actual coverage in the news media! They just quickly blamed the media not being allowed into the area as the reason for not getting any news and moved right back to Schiavo and other things.

When Columbine happened, it was non-stop coverage. With Red Lake, there is almost no mention in the news at all. But I suppose we don't want to talk about people with browner skin the majority.

Unbelieveable. I've even talked to people that haven't even HEARD about this!

I hate our press. They are a complete shell organization for the entertainment and Neo-Con industries.

Those poor, poor people up there. I'd love to know if there is some group taking donations to help cover medical expenses for the injured.

6. Bush is still trying to figure out tribal sovereignty
Edited on Thu Mar-24-05 11:58 AM by LittleWoman
Actually, I am just as happy that he hasn't put his nose into this tragedy. However, there has been coverage in MSM and not just in Minnesota. The NY Times and even the Columbus Dispatch has had some coverage. CBS has had Bob McNamara on the scene the last couple of nights. on edit: He is a good choice for this story as he used to report for WCCO in the Twin Cities in the early 1970's. I don't sully my beautiful mind by watching FOX and I seldom watch CNN either. Overall, I would rather not have the microphone in the face coverage we have seen before. I think the tribal elders were wise to limit access to the general public. They are using their religious traditions and rites to cope and heal as best they can.

I think there is a lesson here in how to face a tragedy with dignity. I can only regret that the fanatics surrounding Terry Shaivo's hospice do no have the same sense of dignity. People who are grieving and suffering do not need a bunch of curiosity seekers and assorted nut jobs in their faces.
As far as making a contribution, I could not find an online link, but there is an address as well as some other information in this article in the Duluth paper

I have also read about efforts in the Twin Cities to help provide transportation for Red Lake tribe members who want to go back to Red Lake for the funerals. I find all of this much more meaningful than a statement from the Imperial Chimpiness.
