IMAX theaters reject film over evolution
IMAX theaters in several Southern cities have decided not to show a film on volcanoes out of concern that its references to evolution might offend those with fundamental religious beliefs.

"We've got to pick a film that's going to sell in our area. If it's not going to sell, we're not going to take it," said Lisa Buzzelli, director of an IMAX theater in Charleston that is not showing the movie. "Many people here believe in creationism, not evolution."

The film, "Volcanoes of the Deep Sea," makes a connection between human DNA and microbes inside undersea volcanoes.

2. "many people believe" --she forgot to say "I believe"
because unless she did, showing the film wouldn't bother her.

I hope they lose their shirts.

BOYCOTT!!!

4. This is ridiculous on so many levels
So, pander to those people who don't believe in evolution, but what about everyone else who would have gone to see it. Science is just not needed to some.

5. The sad part is that more than half of the US believes in

added disclaimer

Creationism over evolution. It will continue to get worse as more more schools give in to the religious right.

I'm not one to be anti religious and normally don't get aggressive with believers, but sometimes it's just hard.

Let me get this straight; you think it irrational that life changes over time and with millions of years to work with it might generate intelligent beings. On the other hand, you believe a woman got pregnant without sperm, that the resulting child disappeared for 33 years and then got killed but got up and walked around after three days?

Which of us is not rational? Me, or you who practices ritualized cannibalism and vampirism on weekends?

That's the editorial you, not aimed at any individual . . .

6. I saw Volcanoes and highly recommend it!
A visually stunning experience, not to mention the revelation that those little blobby specks in the deep do match human DNA. It's the journey the film takes to this discovery that's so amazing!

7. I didn't know fundies went in for movies.
Movies are mentioned in the Bible?

The more we advance, the more superstitous we get...

Maybe she can show "The 9-11 Teddy Care-Bears Story", about how a bunch of stuffed toys dressed like soldiers and firefighters protect our great country by sitting on top of TV sets everywhere and shedding tears each year on "that terible day"....

8. This nation is finished--all that's left is the long, slow, rotting away
as it slides into economic and cultural obscurity and irrelevance.

9. Why don't they just market it as a fantasy movie?
"Many people here believe in creationism, not evolution."

But the fundies probably know it's not fantasy. They just don't want to be exposed to what they know is the truth.
