please, no more threads on Schiavo
This is so much NOT an issue. It's an unfortunate situation and set of circumstances for the family involved. There are so many issues that are important, like; having the sunset on the patriot act, what about DeLay? he's not gone yet?, did we forget Gannon and the fact that his credentials were approved 2 months before Talon News existed?, what about the pressure on payola punditry?, what about the push to convince conservatives (not rapture thumpers) that the environment is important, and that the separation of church and state is paramount, ETC. This so called 'issue' is another diversionary tactic designed to preoccupy us and divert us from more important matters. Why do you think DeLay is so involved in this - cause he's in trouble. He's got something else to talk about now. Ask him an ethics question and he'll spew "Schiavo, Schiavo". I had to pull the plug on my father because it was humane, and IMO the same should be done in this case - NUF SAID. Let that family fight it out. We here at DU have more pressing concerns about our country, our political system, our financial situation. What we should be concerned about in this case is the fact that congress circumvented the judicial branch of government, a clear violation of the balance of power. Let's get back to the business of the people, people. Please. S'il vous plait

rant over

3. I didn't think it was much of an issue either, UNTIL Congress got involved
They made it an issue that we should ALL take notice of. It's pretty clear that the right-to-life kooks are blatantly trying to usurp not only the US Constitution, but the right-to-die issue.

This affects every one of us.

7. I agreed with the OP until congress got involved. Now we see what
Ms. Schiavo's predicament is really about--and it's truly frightening.

It's about "life," usurping the power of judges, marriage, health care, bullying an agenda into policy, privacy rights, ad nauseaum.

It is right that it be discussed even if it takes the onus away from some pet issues.

This may well be the link that breaks the administration's hold on the people.

5. If you don't like them simply click the "x" to hide the threads
I think it IS an important matter, one that helps us understand the divide between the far right wing and the rest of society.

9. Yes. Good x. Hide all of GD if you feel so annoyed by them - I hid
the first five pages a few days ago because I was just fed up.

Use the x. Handy.

10. Congress pushed it to the forefront
Delay's in the thick of the Schiavo tragedy by using her to kick the courts in the teeth and render them useless.

Given what you said in your last few sentences you see the importance as many of us do. The next 24 hours will be crucial, IMO.

12. Then why aren't you starting threads on all those issues?
I notice you use a good part of your long paragraph to give us your thoughts on the topic you claim is so not an issue. All of which have been said before, btw--except no one has pronounced that after they offer their opinion, enough has been said. Who are you to tell people what they should be concerned about? Posts like yours really crisp me.

17. It's a huge issue for those of us concerned with choice
It's a huge issue for those of us concerned with choice, for those concerned with keeping the Constitution, and for those of us who wish to control our own deaths in a similar set of circumstances.

I realize you're new, so maybe you don't know this, but you can choose to hide threads you don't wish to see. Try it, because this issue isn't going away anytime soon.
