usually makes me laugh. And I also know about his recent turn. Still watching...

21. He is critical of Bush.
Here is a quote from Larry King this week: "Bush will never live down the way he got us into the war with the lies as well as his mismanagement of the war."

Sounds critical to me.

34. You obviously missed last week
I was watching a little bit of the rerun earlier this week and saw it. He was saying if Bush came out and said: "Let's go free the Iraq people from a brutal dictator" he would've been there like "hello." Never mind international laws. Maher is trying to get more ratings. Anybody know his current one?

40. If Bush came out and said "let's go free the Iraqi people..."
"...from a brutal dictator."

the right (not the far far far right) wouldn't have supported him or the war- it HAD to be sold as WMD. they only support the "free the iraqi people" in hindsight- i.e. to cover their own hind ends, now that we're there, and our blood has been spilled- after all, our boys had to die for something.

8. Here ya' go
from Bill's website (emphasis mine):

Catch an all new episode of "Real Time with Bill Maher" with a half conservative audience this Friday, March 18th at 11:00PM. Bill's guest include Jason Alexander, former Governor Christie Todd Whitman and Representative Lleana Ros-Lehtinen. Via satellite Bill welcomes Thomas Frank and Governor Frank Murkowski.

35. But wait
I thought that Maher wanted to be more "fair and balanced"? I used to watch his show pretty regularly and I remember he was talking about trying to get more conservatives in his show so he can half some boo's and some yay's so the conservative people don't feel so bad. So this isn't fair and balanced if he's going all convie. My ass.

I used to look forward to his show too. I just won't support what he is trying to do. Recruiting a conservative audience is over the line and his guests are cons too except for Jason Alexander. If you guys say it was ok then maybe we'll catch the rerun but he was out there too much letting the cons know about his right turn.

14. I'll try once more to watch
But after last weeks show I was totally disgusted and confused by the shit coming out of Mahr's mouth about the monkey. He also proclaimed himself a libertarian. Almost like a justification for his about face. Maybe he was just high so I'll see tonight when he is surrounded by conservatives.

19. His Libertarianism is nothing new...
...and he's never hidden it. It's just that until recently, more of the time he seemd to agree with Us, rather than with Them. So perhaps his true leanings weren't as noticable.

Anywho. He's still funny sometimes, and his New Rules are mostly entertaining. We'll see tonight if he crosses just Too Many Lines.

For the life of me I can't understand why people are conservatives. They must love living an entirely scripted life.

The applause from the conservative side of the audience is so cheesy and scripted.

44. I don't understand it either
Criticism of Bush now seems to have to be expressed almost in apologetic terms. In fairness to Jason Alexander, his statement praising Bush was completed with a criticism of Bush for the folly of the tax cut. But it seems now that every time anyone criticizes Bush in the media, it must be preceded with flourishes of homage and veneration.

off viewers too much, firstly

and with the other part of your statement, media has been doing that for a long time. during campaign, they would talk about something bad about bush, but always give, he is a good christian man, he is a straight shooter, he is someone you would have a beer with

they never just gave the bad news and left it at that

Like that makes him (libertarian-level) cool, even if he now has converted to patting Bush on the back "when he deserves it".

Fuck libertarianism, it's not enough of a reason to be on this planet for a short time for.
