1. Yes we should. The government should NOT be fooling with our...
PERSONAL LIVES! Enough is enough! Let her husband decide!

5. Jeepers
Not getting involved in our private lives was the foundation of the conservative movement. It's why we don't have universal health care.

8. This is just grandstanding
if these hypocrits really were concerned about human life, they would make sure that healthcare was available for all.

We aren't turning into a theocracy, we are already there.

9. This is not about grandstanding.
Don't take that the wrong way, you are right, this is not about this poor womans' life.

This is about control, he who has his hand on the plug can either keep it in or pull it. That is what they want, not to keep her alive, but to have the control. They are very serious about the control.

11. It's amazing to me that a man, who is a Republican House Majority
Leader, chairman of the Ethics Committee, and under investigation regarding his ethics, can stand and read a statement about another human being with "prayer" "God's Help" , etc.,

The Republican Party has become our salvation. Why couldn't we see that before? What is wrong with us? The Devil is blinding our eyes from what is right and good! (puhlease).

This is the same situation as the election of 2000. It was a state's issue, controlled by the state; however, they were able to get the Supreme court to over rule the state's laws to get baby Bush in there.

Also, gay marriage is a state's decision; however, during the election of 2004, the right felt they had the right to bring it up as a federal issue and to even amend our Federal Constitution.

I just don't know what to think anymore. It's frightening.

2. Chip, chip, chip away not just to the right for women to control their
own bodies but to the rights of all people to control their own lives.
Daily, we decline as a democracy and rise as a cooperationancy.

3. The Goofy Irony
What a shameless, corrupt, hypocritical bunch the GOOP party is. What could happen here is any action taken will be challenged on Constitutional grounds and we're off to the courts.

My bets are this would then go to the Southern District and who knows what political games they could play. Assume they're rational and, like in 2000, pass the buck upstairs, would the current Supreme Court want to consider this hot potato? Methinks not.

But in the meantime more time will be added on the clock...the story will continue to be a cause celebre for the wingnuts and fundies and used to shakedown their coven...which what this is all about anyway.

6. Absolutely
While I don't know if I were in that position and it was my child, that I wouldn't fight like Schiavo's parents are fighting to keep the feeding tube in (selfish love to be truthful) ...but having said that, the government has no business getting into personal matters.

Yes, I believe Margaret Atwood's tale is proving to be precognition in more ways than one.

Make sure you have a living will.

7. Congress should mandate that

this poor woman NEVER DIES!

If she dies, ever, it should be a felony and someone should go to jail. Mortality is a liberal scare tactic. The riteous will live forever.

EDIT: for the sarcasm impared, that was sarcasm.

10. Unquestionably. But the threat of Orwellian Totalitarianism
would be there whether this bill was pushed or not.
