((URGENT)) from Barbara Boxer. Please read.
Tell the big oil companies to stay out of ANWR!

Dear Friends,

Today, my heart is heavy. By just two votes, we came up short in our effort to prevent oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, home to over 150 wildlife species. I offer my heartfelt thanks to the over 29,000 of you who joined with me and signed my petition to Senate Republican Leader Bill Frist, demonstrating our strong opposition to this disastrous policy.

In the end, over 90% of Senate Democrats voted to stop this madness -- we just didn't have the votes to overcome the Republican majority in the Senate.

But I want you to know that I won't give up in our fight to stop the drilling. And neither should you. I'm going to use every legislative tool at my disposal to reverse this vote and prevent this terrible policy from going into effect. But we can do more -- today.

I'm planning to organize a consumer boycott of any oil company that decides to drill in this pristine Alaskan wilderness area. If, through our pocketbooks, we can convince these companies to do the right thing, we can still save the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from the destruction that would be wrought by the oil drilling rigs.

Send an email to the CEOs of ExxonMobil, BP, ConocoPhillips, Royal Dutch/Shell, and ChevronTexaco now and tell them to stay out of ANWR!

And then invite everyone you know to join us.

This battle is not over -- not by a long shot.

In Friendship,

Barbara Boxer

An amazing woman and a great senator who has risen marvelously to the task.

(I bet she'd make one heck of a President, too!) :)

21. Curtail no matter what.
Even if we do boycott, we should still curtail. The next time you buy a car, get a more efficient one. Better yet, do without a car and use public transportation. (I realize that this is not feasible, or only marginally so, in many areas.)

38. When you find one-
others may be nearby! When I find color in my gold pan, I keep looking near the spot! Boxer has to know others who have helped her into leadership. When you find this type of person, mine or pan it for all it's worth! The democratic party is certainly in need of a lot more Boxer types! I know that there are many out there in municipal, county, and state government offices who although they haven't aspired to higher office would fit the bill of honesty, integrity, and progressive. There are literally thousands in leadership of many non-political organizations which give aid to humanity. Call all that you can think of and mention them to the democratic party to call. "Gold is where you find it" so we all need to keep digging!

29. Great Idea
If the ANWR drilling isn't so economically attractive--then perhaps the public relations "black eye" might be enough additional incentive for these companies to tell the republicans--"Thanks, but NO thanks!"

At least we can try.

37. I believe that she is highly electable
But to believe as I do you must first believe that traditional Democratic values ARE American values.

Articulate & passionate, Sen.Boxer definitely has what it takes to take the message nation-wide. And OMG, the country has suffered through the corrupt & bully tactics of the current criminal administration, the symbolism of David V Goliath. A tiny woman (yet a giant) speaking truth to power, fighting for the little guys against the powerful brutes who abuse their power.

Electable?? Oh, yes indeed!!!

Senator Boxer, you are sooooo loved.:loveya:

40. Boxer rules
Sen. Boxer is a force to be reckoned with. She got more votes
than anyone in the nation except Bush and Kerry in the last
election! Think about that. This is not a lightweight, this is
someone who knows how to run an election.

I am so happy to see someone who doesn't parse every thought
she has or pass it through a focus group first: she speaks
from the heart and her intellect and energy and her heart are
all on the same side. She is a stand-up politician. We need
her SO BADLY on the national stage, and if the party would
just get its sad and cumbersome machinery out of her way and
let her rip, we might be getting somewhere.

Edited on Fri Mar-18-05 05:17 PM by IntravenousDemilo
then 10 per cent of Senate Democrats are going to have to have their asses kicked, and I mean kicked HARD! It is inexcusable that 100 per cent of Senate Democrats didn't vote against drilling. Where was the Democratic whip?

46. Besides signing this, how can we really make this effective?
It would be more effective to choose one of
these oil companies and boycott that one, with
pickets outside of the stations telling people
why we're picketing....many may not be aware
of the ANWR vote. Boycott each, one at a time,
so the impact is greater. With stations closing
down and prices being what they are...it may
be an effort to turn people to stations that
aren't planning on drilling in ANWR.

Just buying less gas, finding other
modes of transportation and planning your
trips, chores, business so you use less
gas...carpool when you can.

A boycott's a good thing and more effective
if we're all on the same page.
