Are you a union member?

My union supports a program called COPE whereby union members have anywhere from $3-10 voluntarily deducted from their paychecks each period to support union political efforts.

In honor of my union just negotiating a great contract, I decided to contribute to help other union groups politically around the country.

Do any of you do this?

...never thought of that. I'm a ways off from retirement, but I will keep that in mind when I do.

SEIU...a group at many of the protests I joined before the start of the war and before the elections...

It's great to be a member of such a vibrant, active group!

In my case being I get such a tiny pension (ashamed to say how much) it is a very minimal cost.

I was a local vp, and was active in the union. I think I did more before I was vp, though.

4. Ah, so each union may have its own PAC?

Seems like there might be more weight if they were all together, but I don't know much about it. I'll look into that more.

but that doesn't keep them from working together when they have similar interests. In fact I believe they work together to maximize their impact.

Sure am, but have never heard of COPE. Will be calling my shop tomorrow to see if they offer this. Unfortunately, I work with several conservatives who love what the union provides in the way of a living wage, benefits, and bargaining power but whine about the measly dues they pay. Any way I can make up for their extreme short-sightedness I will try.
Incredible how any union member can even think of being conservative, but they're "moral values" voters. Trying to reason with them gets me nowhere but frustrated! Any valid argument is twisted into right-wing mumbo jumbo by them. Wearing blinders obviously helps them cope with the real world.

14. I'm IBEW and have always felt that Cope was enough. In addition our local

contributes locally. When I joined the Draft Clark movement I began to contribute directly and have since responded to calls from Wes Clark to contribute directly to other campaigns. I have become a precinct committee person and now find myself contributing directly to the county organization and local candidates. This politics thing can get to be an expensive undertaking. I realize though how much the Dem Party contributes to my well being and my wage structure and feel I will pay back what I can afford.
