I just read the funniest story in the St. Petersburgh (Florida) Times.

It seems that a young man was caught up in the big salaries paid by Haliburton for American contractors to go to Afghan and drive trucks. So this guy signs up and waits impatiently for several months and is finally notified that he has been accepted as a truck driver.

He is flown to Afghan and when he reports to work he finds that he has been assigned to drive the "honey wagon" or SST (shit-sucking)trucks. His job is to clean out the portable toilets for the soldiers and contractors and then to go clean the prisoners's toilets and hose down the area.

After puking for a few days, he quit and came back home to Florida. So much for THAT $85,000/year shitty job.

Here's are some snips from the story:

Dirty deal
Antony Lineberger went to the war zone to drive a gas tanker, make some real money, help his country. He wanted excitement; he got excrement.

TREASURE ISLAND - But no one told him about the toilets.

Antony Lineberger left Treasure Island six weeks ago to drive fuel tankers across Afghanistan. He had been trying to get a job with Halliburton for more than nine months.

After 14 years of hauling fuel to boats around Tampa Bay, he longed to see the Middle East, have a little adventure, make some real money, help out his country.

The 42-year-old registered Libertarian had cut off his waist-length ponytail, given up his apartment, stored his furniture, sold his share of the family business and left his old dog with a friend.

He planned to stay in Afghanistan for at least a year.

WASHINGTON - Iraq needed fuel. Halliburton Co. was ordered to get it there — quick. So the Houston-based contractor charged the Pentagon $27.5 million to ship $82,100 worth of cooking and heating fuel.
