Now that the Lebanese have spoken out about keeping Syria's troops and bringing back their sympathic PM in charge, moron now wants to offer incentives to Iran????

Sounds like to me, that it was just more smoke and mirrors folks. Just wait, when moron is able to pry the Syrian troops out of Lebanon, it will be then that he launches the invasion or bombing or whatever.

1. It's the old bait and switch. Comment from whatreallyhappened.com
"This is a scam. Bush wants to make like he is working towards a peaceful solution (just like he was playing with Iraq in the months leading up to the invasion). The really important detail here is that Europe agrees that if talks break down (and the US will see to it that they do) then Europe does not get to object when the US goes to the UN for sanctions and authorization to "disarm" Iran by force."

He did this with Iraq. If Iraq did whatever they would be OK. So they did whatever, but it wasn't good enough, they had to do next whatever. And so on until we invaded.

2. I don't think the two are connected
Or if they are connected, I don't see the connection.

The only thing slowing down the Bush offensive is the lack of troops and the fact that right now the United States people wouldn't be fore it. Bush isn't afraid of either Syria or Iran. What's that old saying, "No Brain, No pain?"

3. bryant----agreed
He is stopped because he doesn't have the troops AND because he doesn't have the money. He would have to go for a draft and train people for a year before they could invade and the American people would go absolutely nutso on him. The Congress would all be dumped by the people in the elections if they started dishing out money for another "save the people" bullshit road trip when we are told we can have nothing at home. But here's the problem: the loud mouth bastard better watch his words before someone fires the first shot and calls his bluff.

4. All too reality-based, I'm afraid
For all we know, God has already instructed Bush to attack Iran AND Syria.

5. That's nothing new
Bush and his people have often suggested a diplomatic approach to Iran and North Korea.

Unlike the case in Iraq, Iran may be developing real nukes and North Korea really has them. Bush, like a cowardly schoolyard bully, would rather pick a fight unnecessarily against a paper tiger than for good reason against somebody who actually could give him a black eye.

It's not that a diplomatic approach isn't the best way to handle either situation. At this stage, it is. We should certainly hope it doesn't go beyond this stage. However, one might wonder what Bush would do if diplomacy fails. It failed in Iraq; that is because Bush made every effort to make sure it would. If it fails with either Iran or North Korea, Bush may have to make a real decision. It won't be a cakewalk to Baghdad.

6. The problem with * is he is too simple.
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 10:31 AM by Botany
That might be fine if he was an attendant in a parking lot but
he is President of the United States. The man NEVER used his passport
until after the age of 30. Interconnections, nuances, and geopolitical
thinking do not mesh with his simple thinking and his pathology of being
a man who can not admit a mistake (i.e. Iraq).

Besides he is also a tool of Cheney and company who feed into his
"weird" thought pattern so as to manipulate him into doing their
bidding.

Too bad about all the blood, death, and money that has been wasted
as a result.

7. This Maneuver Is More For Domestic Consumption

Just classic 'Good Cop/Bad Cop' tactics.

When 'Israel' strikes the Iranian nuclear infrastructure, and Iran lash's back at US forces resulting in casualties, Our Leader will be able to go before Congress and say that we were looking for a peaceful solution before we were viscously attacked.

War will then be declared, a draft implemented, and a 10% tax levied on all income under $75,000.

This is simply the beginning of round two of the final Great Game.
