6. In LBN: Delay treated for heart condition...
March 10, 2005, 5:41 PM EST

WASHINGTON -- House Majority Leader Tom DeLay was treated for a heart condition Thursday at Bethesda National Naval Medical Center, his office said.

The Texas Republican was released and returned home after a series of tests. He intends to stick to his plans to go to Florida, Georgia and Texas this weekend.

Capt. Michael Curran, the head of cardiology at the hospital, said in a statement that the 57-year-old Delay, who met doctors at the Capitol and then Bethesda after experiencing minor fatigue, has a condition known as arrhythmia, or an irregular heartbeat.

you have to have a heart to suffer from "arrhythmia, or an irregular heartbeat". Wonder what his real problem is, "indictmentaphobia" perhaps?

25. Come on, my fellow DUers
I'm sure that all of us on here have very little respect for Tom Delay and what he represents: arrogance, untruthfulness, criminality; I could go on and on.

However, let's try not to make uncaring or uncompassionate remarks about any health challenge he may be going through.

Remember, we didn't like it one bit when Michael Savage said President Clinton survived his quadruple bypass because "hell was full."

So I think we need to make sure we do not become what we despise. This is probably a good example of silence being golden. I can't find anything charitable to say about Delay, so I will be keeping my mouth shut about his health.

32. Believe me, I understand!
Like I said, I detest everything Tom Delay stands for. I just want us to be careful not to become what we despise.

One of the things I've always admired about those of us on the left, is that we have an amazing ability to put politics aside, and show compassion for people, even those on the right who hate us.

And if we are going to make comments about Delay's health, then we have no right to critize Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh, or any of the other hate mongers on the right who've made very uncharitable comments about the Big Dog.

Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 08:46 PM by ailsagirl
Clinton and DeLay: Clinton is not evil-- DeLay is. It's difficult to have compassion for someone who has caused so much hardship for so many people. This is an extreme example (or is it?)-- but if Charles Manson became ill, I couldn't conjure up any compassion.

I don't wish DeLay HARM but I do want him to face the consequences of his actions.

Any negative sentiment toward him is a direct result of the corrupt, underhanded things he has done. People find it hard to have compassion for a scoundrel.

It's karma: you reap what you sow.

But mainly I wanted to draw a distinction between the repubs wishing Clinton ill and Demos not showing compassion for Delay. The repubs wished Clinton ill purely because of jealousy. The Dems have no compassion for DeLay because he is a HUGE crook.

37. You're absolutely right. I agree with you.
It is hard to have compassion for someone so evil and filled with hatred like Tom Delay. What I try to remind myself of is the fact that there are many times when the Lord may not be pleased by my words or actions, but His mercy, grace and compassion continue to surround me. If He can forgive me, what right do I have not to forgive someone else?

But you're right; it's hard. That's because we are human beings, with all of our faults.

You're also defintely right that the Republicans wished Clinton ill because they are jealous of him. I think they resent the fact that they have not been able to get under his skin. They have called him everything but a child of God, and if he wanted to, he would have every right to be a bitter and angry man. Yet, the Republicans have not managed to steal his joy for life, and I think they resent that.

38. Thanks for your reply, journalist3072...
I was afraid you would think I was attacking what you said about having compassion. Because I do agree with what you wrote. And I also believe that DU-ers are compassionate people.

Example: I know that DU-ers have expressed compassion and sympathy for certain Republicans who have fallen ill. The difference being, those Republicans are from the old school and are pretty decent human beings.

Bottom line is, whatever you put out there, you get back... in spades. And the issue with DeLay illustrates that perfectly.

:)
